Belarusian People's Republic, commonly known as Belarus or Byelorussia was a nation which declared independence from the Russian Republic on the 25th of March 1918, and then went on to become a fully recognized country after the Treaty of Riga in 1921. Belarus remained an independent country all the way up until April 1940, when, while helping Poland and Ukraine fight off Germany, it was invaded by Russia and annexed just under a month later.
