The Bellum Vasallus was a conflict waged in the early 15th Century between the Roman Empire and her vassals, namely Gaul. The Province of Gaul began the war when it seceded from the Roman Empire and declared itself the "Second Gallic Empire"

Cause[]

The Province of France, a long time Roman vassal, under the leadership of now Emperor Marcus Ulpius Postumus, has declared its independence from the Roman Empire, igniting a war in Gaul, in 1417.

War on France[]

Rome quickly dispatched several legions to Gaul. And by September they engaged in battle.

Battle of Avaricum[]

At the Battle of Avaricum Roman Legio VII Claudia and French Legio I Lugdunensis fought on an open field, the similar tactics employed led to catastrophic casualties, and of the 12,000 men that took part in the battle only 2,000 emerged. No one won the battle, it was certainly inconclusive. In response to this Rome, worrying of a high loss of life if this strategy continued, moved from an aggressive to a passive strategy. Blockading France by land and sea.
