Sir Benjamin Irwin Harrison, 3rd Duke of Hartford (August 20, 1833 – August 8, 1903) was an American nobleman who served as the Vice Prime Minister to 1885 and 1890 under James E. Campbell. He was an influential figure in the Conservative Party. He was a member of the Harrison noble family of Virginia. A son of John Scott Harrison, 2nd Duke of Hartford, and a grandson of Prime Minister William Henry Harrison, 1st Duke of Hartford, and a great-grandson of Benjamin Harrison V, 1st Baron of Fairfax, and a great-nephew of Benjamin Harrison VI, 2nd Baron of Fairfax.

Early life[]
Harrison was born on August 20, 1833, in North Bend, Ohio, the second of Elizabeth Ramsey (Irwin) and John Scott Harrison, 2nd Duke of Hartford's 10 children. His ancestors included immigrant Benjamin Harrison, who arrived in Jamestown, Virginia, c. 1630 from England.Harrison was of entirely English ancestry, all of his ancestors having emigrated to America during the early colonial period. He was never intended to be his father's heir apparent. He has an older brother named Lt.-Col. Archibald Harrison (1832–1870) who fought in the American Civil War. He contracted pneumonia and died in 1870, leaving Harrison to be his father's heir apparent. On his father's death on May 25, 1878, he succeeded him and became 3rd Duke of Hartford.
