Benjamin Keith Smith (born January 28, 1970) is an American politician and lawyer who is serving as the mayor of Raleigh, North Carolina. She was elected mayor in 2019. Before becoming mayor, she was a member of the Raleigh City Council.

Early life and education[]
Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, on January 28, 1970, to middle-class african-american parents. He graduated from the University of North Carolina, earning a bachelor's degree in political science and earning a juris doctor.
As a student at the University of North Carolina, Smith was actively involved in the student chapter of NAACP, eventually becoming president. He was elected as student body president during his undergraduate career and served as president of the student bar association during his third year of law school. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi and Sigma Pi Phi fraternities.
