Bernard Law Montgomery (* November 17th, 1887 in Kennington/London) is a British officer.

He was born as the fourth of nine Kids of the Anglican Priest Henry Montgomery and his wife Maud (née Farrar). When his father was appointed Bishop of Tasmania in the year of 1889, the Family moved to this Island, where he spent most of his childhood. In 1901, the Family returned to London.

In the First World War, he had fought at the Western front and been severely wounded. In 1919, he was part of the Rhineland occupation. Between the World Wars, he served besides in Great Britain in Ireland, British India and Palestine, where he defeated an uprising of the Arabs.

In 1927, he met and married Elizabeth Carver. Their son David was born in August 1928.

Meanwhile Major General, he was sent to France with the BEF after the start of World War II. During the Battle of Dunkirk, he became a German prisoner of war.

He is a non-smoker, teetotaller (both due to his old wounds) and a vegetarian.
