Alternative History

The Best Buy Company, Inc. is an American multinational consumer electronics corporation that operates consumer electronic-focused stores largely in the United States and Cascadia. The company was originally founded in 1966 in Minneapolis, Minnesota as the Sound of Music, a store specializing in audio-focused products. In 1983, the company was rebranded as Best Buy, and within the next two years, had debuted on the NY Stock Exchange in Manhattan. In the intervening twelve years, Best Buy has become the Unites States' leading distributor of consumer electronics and one of the largest in the world, behind only Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, and LG. It was the first consumer retailer in the United States to widely distribute DVDs and their associated hardware/software packages upon the format's introduction in 1985, and blu-discs upon their introduction in 1990.
