'''Boogie Down Productions (BDP)''' is an American hip hop group originally consisting of KRS-One, D-Nice and DJ Scott La Rock. currently the group consists of Mad Lion and Gizmo as extra members. The group's name, Boogie Down, derives from a nickname given to the South Bronx neighborhood of New York City. The group pioneered the fusion of dancehall reggae and hip hop and their debut LP, Criminal Minded, contained frank descriptions of life in the South Bronx during the late 1980s, thus setting the stage for what would eventually become gangsta rap. . D-Nice's departure D-Nice left the group in the early 90s because he didn't agree with the group's new direction, it all started because KRS wanted to make more conscious rap while Scott La Rock wanted to keep the old style, this left D- Nice frustrated and resulted in the album Edutainment. the group currently consists of Mad Lion and Gizmo as definitive members, as on most albums they are just frequent collaborators.
