Active from 1157 to 1942, The Duchy knew many forms and shapes throughout its history.

It became a renowned nation under the rule of the Hohenzollern dynasty which ruled the land since 1415 to 1942, and the creation of the lander of Brandenburg.

History[]

Created as the Margraviate of Brandenburg in 1157, its rulers gained the title of prince electors in 1356.

The House of Hohenzollern inherits the lands in 1415, the capital is moved to Berlin two years later.

In 1721, the Duchy of Prussia, along with Polish Royal Prussia, is attached to the territory of the Duchy as an effect of the end of the Great Northern War.

The Kingdom of Prussia is created in 1723, with Berlin as its capital.

The Kingdom loses Prussia to Poland and Silesia to Austria as a result of the Seven Years War in 1763. The country, reduced to Brandenburg and Pomerania, looses its title of kingdom.

The Duchy of Brandenburg is officially created in 1765.

Pomerania and parts of Brandenburg are given to Poland in 1810 after the Second Northern War.

Affected by the Springtime of Nations, the country developed a more liberal policy.

Victorious in the War of 1866 against Austria, the country created the North German Confederacy, uniting with Hanover and Saxony.

The Duchy became part of the German Empire in 1871.

It was finally disbanded in 1942, after the German Capitulation
