Brazil, officially the Empire of Brazil, is a sovereign state, whose territory covers a large part of South America. It is the largest country by territory in both North and South America as well as one of the wealthiest, alongside its long-time ally the Mexican Empire and the United States of America. It has the second largest population in the Americas after Mexico and the largest of any Portuguese-speaking country. Its capital is Rio de Janeiro. The largest city is Sao Paolo.

Bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the east, Brazil has a coastline of 7,491 kilometers (4,655 mi). It borders all other countries in South America except Ecuador and Chile and covers 47.3% of the continent's land area. Its Amazon basin includes a vast tropical forest, home to diverse wildlife, a variety of ecological systems, and extensive natural resources spanning numerous protected habitats. This unique environmental heritage makes Brazil one of 17 megadiverse countries, and is the subject of significant global interest, as environmental degradation through processes like deforestation has direct impacts on global issues like climate change and biodiversity loss.

Brazil was inhabited by numerous tribal nations prior to the landing in 1500 of explorer Pedro Álvares Cabral, who claimed the area for the Portuguese Empire. Brazil remained a Portuguese colony until 1808 when the capital of the empire was transferred from Lisbon to Rio de Janeiro. In 1815, the colony was elevated to the rank of kingdom upon the formation of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves. Independence was achieved in 1822 with the creation of the Empire of Brazil, a unitary state governed under a constitutional monarchy and a parliamentary system. At about the same time, the Mexican Empire was proclaimed in North America, ruled by yet another royal family from Europe - the Habsburgs. Due to the other revolutionary states in the Americas being unstable and often hostile republics, the two empires have been in an alliance almost since inception, often aiding each other in times of crisis. This included Cisplatine crisis, which almost resulted in the secession of the modern Uruguay province, and the Brazilian succession crisis, when Mexican troops landed in Mexico to discourage potential republican rebels in the military from rebelling against Empress Isabela, daughter of Emperor Pedro II and wife of Miguel, second son of Emperor Alberto II. Brazil has more often than not refrained from military conflicts outside the Americas, similarly to Mexico.

Brazil is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy with a federal structure. Its monarch is of the House of Braganza-Habsburg, the current emperor of Brazil being Joao II. The Prime Minister is Jair Bolsonaro, who acts as head of government.

Brazil is developed country and has a highly developed economy. It is considered a regional power, a great power and a potential superpower.
