The Empire of Brasil is one of the world's largest and most powerful states. Having split from Portugal in 1825 it survived an attempted coup in 1889 when succession passed from Pedro II to his grandson Pedro III bypassing his daughter Isabella in order to placate noblemen and the establishment. Brasil is the worlds longest serving democracy having had free elections continuously since its independence and having established true universal suffrage for all citizens in 1892. The early Twentieth Century saw Brasil establish itself as the South's undisputed master, a series of wars with Argentina in the 1900's prevented the Empire from lending its considerable Navy and Army to assist its allies in Europe an North America during WWI although Brasilian battleships did assist the USA during its short lived conflict with Mexico. WWII However saw Brasil recognised as a global power, Imperial troops and equipment could be seen as far away as Siberia and North Africa and a number of Brasilian scientists were involved in the Atomic bomb project.

The Cold War saw Brasil alone as a democratic state in South America as its neighbors fell one by one to Francoist coups. A series of wars saw the Empire's territory occupied several times but one by one the attackers were turned back either by force of arms or in the case of Paraguay the use of a Nuclear weapon against there military. Eventually all but Argentina were ran by Brasilian supported leaders. The Conflict with Argentina was once again brought up during the Anglo-Dutch Civil War where the two fought a small war that ended with both countries economically and territorially the same as the start. In the 21st Century Brasil remains the South's Superpower, is one of the worlds 10 recognized Nuclear Powers and holds a seat on the League of Nations High Council.
