Brazil presidential election, 2006 was held on October 1, 2006 , on Sundays. It was the country's 6th presidential election after the 1988 Federal Constitution promulgated. It was the first time that a candidate from the Workers' Party won an election.

The election was marked by José Serra being in favor of the death penalty in one of the election debates. José Alencar said that: '' This is admissible for human rights '', Marco Maciel ended up not getting into the case. . It was also marked by a recount in Minas Gerais, where Serra claimed to have been a fraud. The Minas Election was recounted and Alencar won. The candidate José Alencar, from the Worker's Party, was elected President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, to take office on March 15, 2007.

The 2006 election was the first election with fake news records on news sites. The first one being more famous: José Alencar will increase taxes. It was also the first time that the term ''PSDB-PT Polarization'' became popular and entered the mouth of newspapers in Brazil when the subject is politics.

He promised to stop the crisis in Brazil. He ended up winning on May 19, 2006 when he won for 20 states against the candidate, winning 4 million votes.

Marco Maciel ended up being the main successor to the incumbent President Ferando Henrique Cardoso (FHC) due to being from the same party. On June 1 he named José Serra as his candidate for vice.

Marco Maciel became the first vice president to run for Brazil's elections after the re-democratization.

The Workers' Parties had gained strength with FHC's unpopularity. And with that, several candidates or even artists applied for the primaries. Candidate Lula (who participated in the 1989,1994,1998 and 2002 elections) gave up his fifth candidacy, but before that, he nominated his great ally José Alencar as his candidate for the elections. Because he was a popular governor of mines and an ally of Lula, he ended up gaining a lot of support. Participating in events with Lula do PT. She was known for being a calm, smart and patient candidate in the primaries.

Alencar ended up winning 23 states plus the federal district. He won 6.5 million votes. On May 28, he chose his ally Lula as his candidate for vice. Alencar became the biggest opposition figure of the FHC government and also of the toucan José Serra. At 74, Alencar became the oldest candidate in the history of Brazil's elections.

Lula ended up saying that Alencar will be a great president of the Republic. And that he will make a Brasil Grande again.

The Brazilian Democratic Movement ended up being divided by Michel Temer and Ibsen Pinheiro. Who were in disagreement and party chairman. Days after Alencar's victory as president of Brazil, on October 11, some people began to be suspicious of the election of minas gerais due to allegations of vote buying between both candidates (Marciel and Alencar). The electoral justice he ended up recounting all the votes in minas gerais and conducting an investigation of vote purchases.

Between the days of vote counting, the federal police ended up arresting 74 suspects over vote buying.

Serra's provocations and the press[]
