Fascist Britain is the common name for the period in British history from 1934 to 1946, when the country was governed by a dictatorship under the control of Oswald Mosley and the British Union of Fascists. Under Mosley's rule, Britain was transformed into a fascist state in which the Fascists took totalitarian control over nearly all aspects of life. The official name of the state remained the Commonwealth of Great Britain and Ireland from 1932 to 1937, but was changed to the monarchical United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland when Edward II of Cygnia was crowned Edward VIII of the United Kingdom. Following the incorporation of British-occupied France in 1943 through the Acts of Union, France was re-added to the state's full name. Government propaganda referred to the Fascist state as the Restoration, alluding to not only the return of monarchy to Britain, but also the anticipated restoration of Britain's former continental empire. The Fascist regime came to an end after the Allied Powers defeated Britain in March 1946, ending World War III in Europe.
