British Honduras is a province of the West Indies Federation, located on the eastern coast of the Central American region of North America. It borders Mexico to the north, and Central America to the west. The largest settlement of Belize City on the east coast is home to around 55,000 people, nearly a quarter of the province's population. British Honduras is also a popular regional tourist destination (competing with Cancun and Cozumel in neighboring Mexico), which provides a large portion of the provincial economy's main source of income, especially with the steady decline of timber exports to the UK and United States since the end of World War II in 1945.
