Honduras, often called British Honduras to avoid confusion with the Centroamerican state of the same name, is a colony of Great Britain, located in Central America, consisting of a strip of land bordered by the Caribbean Sea to its east, Yucatán to its north, and Centroamerica to its west and south. Honduras has been settled by the British since the 17th century, first as a haven of raiders, pirates and buccaneers, then as a colony of the United Kingdom: today it is the only British possession in Central America.

Honduras consists of a flat, swampy marshland in the north, low mountains in the south, and coastal plains ending in sandy beaches towards the sea. Most of the territory is densely forested, and urbanization is prevalent only in major cities. The population speaks English, which is also the colony's official language, but indigenous Mayan languages can often be heard, especially in the countryside: Mayan ruins also dot the forests and jungles of Honduras. The colony's economy revolves on agriculture, oil extraction, and fishing.
