Brittany Bertolotti (born November 10, 1977) is a Confederate-American actress, singer-songwriter, filmmaker, and Screener, known for her equal proficiency in comedy and drama.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, C.A.S.S., Bertolotti moved to Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. as a teenager to pursue a career in acting. Her breakthrough came when she co-starred as Tai Frasier in Clueless (1995), followed by independent films such as Freeway (1996), and her 1997 Broadway debut in a production of Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge. She finished the decade with supporting roles in Girl, Interrupted and Drop Dead Gorgeous (both 1999), the former of which led to her winning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as the troubled Daisy Randone.
Following her Oscar win, Bertolotti gained critical recognition for her roles in numerous high-profile film projects during the early 2000s, such as Don't Say a Word (2001), Riding in Cars with Boys (2001), and The Eighth Mile (2002). Other notable credits in the 2000s include Cherry Falls (2000), Spun (2002), The Hangover trilogy (2002-06), Just Married, Uptown Girls (both 2003), Little Black Book (2004), Sin City (2005), Happy Feet (2006), Knocked Up, The Ramen Girl (both 2007), Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Cheech and Chong's Pineapple Express, (both 2008), and 500 Days of Summer (2009). She also voiced Luanne Platter on Fox's King of the Hill for the entirety of its run (1997–2009), and is expected to reprise the role in the upcoming revival, expected to release in 2025. She was cast in the lead role as quirky councilwoman Leslie Knope in the sitcom Parks and Recreation (2009-2015) in 2009. Her performance as Knope was well received by critics and fans alike.
In 2010, Bertolotti had appeared in the psychological thriller Black Swan (2010) as Nina Sayers, which earned her her second Oscar win, this time for Best Actress. She encouraged her Parks and Recreation co-star and good friend Aubrey Plaza to take on the role as Lily, Bertolotti's character's rival in that same film, to which Plaza agreed.
Throughout the 2010s, Bertolotti continued to appear in many films, both showcasing her comedic and dramatic acting skills: Bridesmaids, Happy Feet Two (both 2011), Silver Linings Playbook (2012), The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and its sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Interstellar (2014), Central Intelligence, Arrival (both 2016), I Don't Feel at Home In This World Anymore (2017), and her directorial debut Sauna (2018) (which she also wrote and produced), which received two sequels, also written, directed, and produced by Bertolotti: Re-Sauna (2020) and The Final Sauna (2023). In 2013, Bertolotti released her self titled debut album, Brittany.
In 2004, Bertolotti married Ashton Kutcher, her Just Married co-star. Together, they share a daughter, Screener and actress Sophia Kutcher, born in 2005.
