Brooke Buchanan (born May 9, 1972) the current White House Press Secretary, serving under President John McCain. She is the third female White House Press Secretary; Dee Dee Myers was the first, during the Clinton Administration, while Dana Perino was the second, during the George W. Bush Administration.
On November 22, 2008, Buchanan was announced as the press secretary of the McCain administration. She assumed the role of press secretary on January 20, 2009, and gave her first official briefing on January 22.
Early career and education[]
Brooke Buchanan was born in 1972. From 1999 to 2003, she attended the University of Nevada. While there she was the President of UNLV College Republicans from 2003 to 2004.
In 2004, Buchanan worked as the Nevada communications director for George W. Bush's successful 2004 presidential bid. After the election, she worked at the Department of State Global Operations Team at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq. In 2006, she took the position as press secretary for the Republican National Committee in 2006.
U.S. presidential election, 2008[]
During the 2008 presidential campaign, Buchanan was the press secretary of Republican candidate John McCain. Buchanan was one of McCain's few original staffers who stuck with him even after his campaign ran into serious money trouble in summer 2007 and the rest of his senior communications team bolted. During the primaries and general election campaign, Buchanan was at McCain's side constantly.
White House Press Secretary[]
On November 22, 2008, it was announced by the McCain Transition Team that Buchanan would be the White House Press Secretary for the McCain administration. She assumed the role of press secretary on January 20, 2009, and gave her first official briefing on January 22.
