Bruno Le Maire (April 15, 1969-) is a French politician who has been serving as the president of France since May 17, 2019. After assuming the presidency, he became the youngest president in French history.
Former member of The Republicans (LR), which he left in 2020 to join La Marcha! (MAR!), he was Minister of Economy, Industry and Digital Subjects from 2009 to 2011 under President Nicolas Sarkozy. Le Maire is also a noted writer, with his book Des hommes d'Etat winning the 2008 Edgar Faure Prize. In 2009 he was appointed by President Sarkozy as Minister of Economy, Industry and Technology. He stayed until 2011 when he ended up leaving office.
In 2018, he announced his candidacy for the 2019 elections, soon becoming the favorite thanks to Ségolène Royal's unpopularity. He ended up being elected with 58% of the valid votes and being elected as the youngest president elected by France. In 2020, with a small internal crisis by the party, he ended up leaving and joining La Marcha de Macron.
