Brussels is the capital of Belgium. The city is one of the major cities in Western Europe and is an economic and cultural hub. Since the end of the Second World War, Brussels has been a major centre for international politics, being the base of many international organizations, politicians, diplomats and civil servants. The de facto capital of the European Union, it hosts a number of EU Institutions. It is also the location of the headquarters of NATO.

History

World War III

During World War III, Brussels was attacked by Soviet bombers. Because of this, NATO had to relocate to Barcelona, Spain to avoid the range of aerial attacks.

City of Brussels
