Alternative History

CJPX-DT, virtual channel 62 (digital UHF channel 39) for Toronto, is a system of Ion O&O’s owned by Scripps (through Ion Canada) and Corus. It serves Ontario, Quebec, and Baffin Island.

Transmitters[]

In August 30 2011 at 12:00 pm, The Toronto, Barrie. Ottawa, London, Sudbury, Montreal, Quebec City, Sherbrooke, Trois-Riveres, and Saguenay transmitter shutdown their analog signals, as all except Sudbury are mandatory digital markets.

In Ontario and Quebec, the mandatory markets that doesn't have CJPX or Ion are

  • Windsor (served by WPXD Detroit, MI, which eventually joined the Ion.ca system in 2022)
  • Kitchner (mainly served by London, but did not have a Ion station of its own until 2015)
  • Rouyn-Noranda/Val d'Or (outgoing SRC station CKRN joined the network, initally on its 3rd subchannel from 2018-2021.)
  • Rivere-du-Loup (outgoing SRC station CKRT joined the network on August 2021)
  • Thunder Bay (part of the CIPX, though initally planned to be part of the CJPX system

Only Sudbury was the only station to shut down its analog signal, because the GM for that station was unhappy that Thunder Bay was a mandatory market and not Sudbury. It was the only station in Sudbury to be in digital until the CBC twinstick flash-cut to digital a year later. Semi-Satellites are in bold, stations that carry Global are italicized.
