CKND-DT, virtual channel 9 (UHF digital channel 40) is a Global owned-and-operated station in Winnipeg. It serve the province of Manitoba via digital terrestrial and cable.
History[]
CKND-DT launched as a successor station to KCND in Pembina, ND in 1975. It was an independent station until 1985 when it became part of the Global Television System. Today it is still the Global station throughout the province.
Transmitters[]
In 1982 CKND-2 was launched from Minnedosa, birthplace of Manitoban politician Izzy Aspar, and it serves the Brandon region. Like the Winnipeg transmitter, CKND-(DT)-2 converted to digital in 2011, therefore being Brandon’s only digital English-language station as the other one is TVA station CKSB-DT-10 (Formerly analog CBWFT) and CKYB haven't signed into digital yet.
In 2012, CKND-DT acquired 7 transmitters from CBWT because CKY already has CTV rebroadcasters in communities like Thompson, Flin Flon, etc. All of the converted to digital by March 2013.
On April 11, 2012, CKND applied for transmitters for Kenora (Channel 13, CJBN-TV's old channel), Dryden (Channel 11), and Fort Frances (Channel 46), all in Ontario as CKDF-DT. If approved, it will bring Global back to Kenora after five years.
