Cameroon (German: Kamerun) is a German colony in northwestern Central Africa: it shares land borders with French Equatorial Africa to the east and south, the British colony of Nigeria to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Spanish colony of Equatorial Guinea to the south. Cameroon became a German colony during the late phases of the Scramble for Africa, and has remained a part of the German colonial empire since then.

Cameroon is well known for its geographical and cultural diversity, with numerous indigenous tribes living in the colony (while the European community is still relatively small): its territory includes beaches, rainforests, high mountains and savannas. Because of its rugged territory, the colony is relatively underdeveloped, and its modest economy relies largely on naval industry and plantations, as well as naturalistic tourism.
