In the Russian Empire's noble-political hierarchy, a Principality (Княжество) is a duchy and governorate-level territorial administration were a non-Romanov noble, namely a prince or princess, is considered the local Head of State. They are below Grand Duchies and its non-Romanov equivalent, Grand Principalities.
Although legally, they bear the Russian titles for Romanov dukes and duchesses, princes and princesses for non-Romanovs, namely knyaz (князь) and kinaginya (княгиня) respectively, they are under Autonomy Rights, titles according to their own native titles.
For example, in the Principality of Manchuria, Manchu princes and princesses are known as wang (uанг), which is a Chinese loanword. In the Principality of Siberia, and within Cossack circles, the title ataman is used (атаман). Within Baltic German nobilities, they are known as Georg Edler.
