There are two main Christian churches that claim to be the Universal Church (Catholic), and the successor of the Church of Rome. They are the Catholic Northern and Western Churches.
The word "Catholic" is also use to designate a series of sects and smaller Churches that share some common elements with the two main Catholic Churches, or that are specifically not "Orthodox" inside the Catholic countries.
(Some of these minor churches specifically reject the name of "Catholic", claimed that they are just "Christian".)
