Champlain, officially the Republic of Champlain (French: République de Champlain) is a country located in the Sea of the King on the island of Champlain. It shares a land border with Guantanamo to the west and has maritime borders with many of its immediate neighbors. The country's capital and largest city is Point du Sauveur.
Settled by French in the 16th century, the island of Champlain would eventually be named after French explorer Samuel de Champlain, who was instrumental in surveying the island and the region that would eventually become New France. The island would be a crucial part of the French Empire during the Trans-Atlantic slave trade due to its abundant resources such as sugar cane. Following the abolition of slavery in the early 19th century, Champlain would shift to being a naval colony and served as the seat of the French Sea of the King Fleet.
Champlain is a unitary parliamentary constitutional republic and a developed country. The country is a member of the League to Enforce Peace and the Global Treaty Organization.
