The Chancellor of the Commonwealth of California (informally referred to as CCC, pronounced "Triple C") is the head of government of California. The Chancellor is the most senior member of the federal government, the leader of the Cabinet and the chairperson of the National Security Committee. The Chancellor also administers the Department of the Chancellor. The individual who holds the office is commissioned by the President of California and at the President's pleasure subject to the Constitution of California.

Almost always and according to convention, the Chancellor is the leader of the majority party or largest party in a coalition of parties in the Californian House of Representatives and continues to be so long as they command the confidence of the House. Some commentators argue that the President may also dismiss a Chancellor who is unable to pass the government's supply bill through both houses of parliament.

Bernie Sanders has held the office of Chancellor since 3 January 2016. He received his commission after the Coalition under his leadership secured a majority in the 55th Parliament of California, elected at the 2015 federal election. He is the 31st individual to serve as Chancellor. His government succeeded that of Democrat and fellow Coalition member Barack Obama.
