The Chancellor of England is the head of government in the Republic of England. The Chancellor chairs the Cabinet and selects its ministers. The Chancellor is nominated by their party and is elected by Parliament. The Chancellor is required to report to Parliament and therefore must be a member of Parliament.

The Chancellorship was established in 1937 as an unofficial role but became a full role in 1938 following the general election of that year. Clement Attlee was elected as the first Chancellor in 1938 who also is the longest serving. Since 1937 there have been 16 Chancellors (15 male & 1 female). Tom Tugendhat is the current Chancellor having assumed office on 18 March 2024.
