Charles II was King of Spain, succeeding his brother Ferdinand VI of Spain. He never expected to be King, and thus was completely untrained for the job. He led Spain into a series of disastrous wars with other European countries such as France and England, which resulted in the beginning of the decline and fall of the Spanish Empire. He was succeeded by his son, Philip V of Spain. Other children included Infante Charles and Infante Ferdinand of Spain.
