Establishment | January 7th, 1971 |
Chechnya is a country located in what used to be the former USSR. It was established on January 7th, 1971, as the USSR evacuated to Siberia. It is a member of the North Caucasus Economic Cooperation Dialogue (NCECD) since the alliance's establishment back in 1988.
Originally under the Checheno-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic after the collapse of the Russian SFSR, both the Chechens and the Ingush opted to split the country into two, as the communist leadership was in complete disarray. Chechnya split from the ASSR first, and then Ingush experienced a peaceful revolution that abolished the ASSR completely. The Soviet Union in Siberia still recognizes the ASSR, despite the fact no government body of the ASSR has existed since the 1970s. Chechnya and Ingushetia still remain close allies today, both in the NCECD, along with Dagestan. It has attempted to join GUAM, but to little avail.
History[]
Moscow-Washington Conflict & Independence (1968 - 1990)[]
Chechnya (and the Caucasus with the exception of Azerbaijian) was completely untouched during the conflict that devestated both Moscow & Washington. In February 1969, the USSR evacuated to Siberia, which left a power vacuum in Chechnya. In 1971, the power vacuum was resolved with Chechenya's reestablishment, with Dagestan & Ingushetia doing the same 5 weeks later. In 1988, Chechnya established the North Caucasus Economic Cooperation Dialogue, alongside Ingushetia & Dagestan. On September 5th, 1989, Chechnya, Pennsylvania, Dagestan & Al-Khafji joined the International Committee of Restoration.
