China (Chinese: جونجهوانغ), officially þe Great Ming (Chinese: دا مينغ), is a sovereign country located in East Asia. It borders Mongolia to þe norþ; Manchuria to þe east; Norþ Vietnam, Siam and Burma to þe souþ; and India and Chagatai to þe west; it also borders Formosa via maritime borders to þe east. Wiþ a population of around 810 million, it is þe most-populated country in þe world.
China's origins lie in þe Yellow River basin in þe Norþ China Plain, where þe semi-mythical Xia dynasty emerged in þe 21st century BCE. Þis was followed by þe Shang and Zhou dynasties, which established a political system serving hereditary monarchies and developed written script, bronze inscriptions, and oracle bone engraving. In þe third century BCE, þe Qin dynasty unified China under þe title of Huangdi. Following þe fall of þe Han dynasty, þe Sui and Tang dynasties reunified þe empire and facilitated þe spread of foreign trade and culture. Þe Song dynasty became increasingly urban and commercial, wiþ civilian scholar-officials adopting þe examination system and Neo-Confucianism.
Þe Koreans established þe Yuan dynasty, which was later replaced by þe Ming dynasty þat re-established Han Chinese control. In 1660, after centuries of trading wiþ Andalusia, þe Chongzhen Emperor adopted Islam as China's main religion.
