Point of Divergence[]

We all know how the Chinese Civil War ended, the Chinese communist party wins, the Kuomintang and the Republican Government flee to their last stronghold, Taiwan, and now we have the current situation today with the "One-China Policy". But what if that were to change? What if Chiang Kai-Shek's forces continued to overrun the Communists in manchuria? What if? On November 15,1945, Kuomintang Forces under direct order of Chiang Kai-Shek began a massive offensive in Communist-Controlled Manchuria, and we're rolling over communists forces with ease. In our timeline, the Kuomintang Forces reach northern Manchuria within months, but were then ordered to stop by direct order of Chiang Kai-Shek, this order to halt the final offensive allowed the Communist Forces in Manchuria to reorganize and finally push back the Nationalists. But what if that never happened? What if Chiang Kai-Shek gave the official order to continue the campaign as planned? Well in this timeline that happens, and by the spring of 1946, Chiang's Forces have managed to "Liberate" Manchuria, and destroy the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Army, basically leaving pockets of guerrilla fighters left, controlling small villages and forests and mountain ranges. In our timeline, and in this timeline as well, the Kuomintang Forces were doing most of the fighting in the 2nd Sino-Japanese War, and the communists were just waiting it out, this caused the invading Kuomintang Forces in Manchuria to crush the communists due to their past war experience, no match for the guerrilla fighting, Mostly countryside peasant armies of the CCP. After the crushing defeat, and final blow in Manchuria, China is finally unified under the Kuomintang, and remaining warlords are easily crushed and executed, with Tibet and East Turkestan being spared. In Late December, when the Kuomintang reaches a previously communist guerrilla occupied town in northern Manchuria, near the border with Soviet Russia, Kuomintang Forces find not to far off from there, a Communist base, previously used by the Japanese, lying about, with communist worker guards. The Kuomintang Commander orders an attack on the base, and for a raid to commence, and they do so, with much success, but when they reach inside, they discover Mao Zedong, leader of the Communists, and Now declared "Enemy of the State". The Kuomintang Forces quickly arrest him, and send him to Peking, the Capital and modern day Beijing, where Mao is trialed, and Executed by hanging. This causes the retreating communist forces and government, retreating to the Soviet border to then be allowed in and create a government in exile in Vladivostok, headed by Lin Bao, one of Mao's Favorite Generals.

Effects[]

The Chinese Civil War is one major turning point in Chinese History, first of all, it had an effect on the Chinese Language, today, Taiwan and Mainland China have a different type of Chinese they speak: Taiwan's Version of China is centuries old, and is called Traditional Chinese, and was spoken by the Chinese Dynasties centuries ago China speaks a version of Chinese that the communists created, and it's called "Simplified Chinese", and was created to simplify Chinese. Currently 1 billion Chinese speak it. With a Kuomintang victory, Simplfied Chinese would of died out with The communists, and there would be only 1 type of Chinese spoken in China and across the world.

Another change would be the Soviet's overall influence in Asia, and the future of communism in asia could drastically change, especially since the US has china to use as an influence in the area. Due to this, the Soviet Union might focus their foreign policy on securing Africa, and spreading communism in the region. We could see the rise of many more communist nations in this timeline (which is what I will do).
