The College of Cardinals is the collection of Cardinals within the Roman Catholic Church. Each Cardinal is appointed by the Pope and represents the upper echelon of the Catholic Church. The College is responsible for selecting the next Pope whenever the incumbent dies or decides to resign.
Rules for Players
For more player involvement, each player will be able to decide the vote of his or her respective Cardinals. If you do not sign off in the section below before the next turn after the Papal death it will be assumed that you are not interested in voting and your votes will go to Callum. NPC votes also go to Callum.
Since the reform of Leo X in his 1506 Bull Ecclesiam Cardinalibus, in order to be elected Pope, only a simple majority must be obtained. As there are fifteen Cardinals, there must be a vote of eight in order to become Pope. You are allowed to vote for yourself, but it is discouraged.
Current College
The current College is composed of fifteen Cardinals. Unless otherwise stated, Cardinals are appointed on the Feast of the Assumption: August 15.

NOTE: Information in parentheses is an impediment to being elected to the papacy (ie they are a layman or are not of the Latin Rite). All cardinals, regardless of such impediments, can still vote.
Votes:
Cardinal Carlos Fransistos nominates Fernando Perez for the Papacy.
Cardinal John Kristatos nominates Maxim Konstantinov for the Papacy.
Cardinal Joseph Angelo supports the nomination of Maxim Konstantinov for the Papacy.
- As the Note above says, being of a non-Latin rite is an impediment to being elected. Feel free to cast a vote for any of the Cardinals without information in brackets. ~Cal
Cardinal Antonio Ortolano nominates Giovanni Neovano for the Papacy.
Cardinals Novelli, de Foreno, and Neoveno cast their votes for Perez.
Rotherham votes for Perez
Cardinal Emmerich von Berg casts his vote for Perez.

Cardinal Andrew Polemnos and Grandmaster Pierre d'Aubusson (Lay) vote for Fernando Perez.
As Perez has gained the majority required (10 votes) I think Perez would now be the presumptive Pope-elect. ~Tim
Yup, I agree:
Habemus papam! Fernando Perez of Castile succeeds his countryman to the Throne of St Peter and takes the name Leo X.

Cardinals from NPCs will be controlled by mod random determination. Also, please remember that although you are voting now, the actual election is taking place in 1520. So do not write about the election in your turns until 1520.
Hold up, just realised. Don't the rules above give me the NPC votes? ~Cal
- Sorry Cal, you're right. -scraw
A surprise at the College of Cardinals! Cardinal Orsini tries to convince his fellow Cardinals that the men of the non-Latin rite should also be eligible for the papacy. He seeks the support of the Cardinals from the Bulgarian, Northern, and Greek Rites. -scraw
Papal States: The two States Cardinals are willing to accept the idea, but point out that as the Patriarch of the West and the bishop of a Latin-Rite diocese, the Papacy is a Latin-Rite position, meaning that were a non-Latin to be raised to the Holy See, he would have to be proficient in the Latin-Rite rubrics. They both vote for Rotherham.
I think the Hospitallar is an NPC.
The Knights Hospitaller: Cardinal Andrew Polemos rejects the notion of Cardinal Orsini and instead votes for Markus Fugger. It is suspected that he may have been bribed. -S
Markus Fugger votes for Rotherham.
Rhoderich de la Mark votes for Rotherham.
All Iberian Cardinals place their votes for their English colleague Rotherham.
Thomas Rotherham is honoured by people supporting him. He agrees that the Pope and Catholic church is a Latin rite and so it would be insensible for someone of the non- Latin rite to be nominated. He nominates Andrew Polemos
John Kristatos, Joseph Angeolos, and Maxim Konstantov (also reigning as Ecumenical Patriarch currently) All vote for Cardinal Konstantov (this is 2 votes only is it not? not sure about the rules on self voting).
Callum just a note, yes i am voting eastern rite again, but there is a specific purpose and its not something that can be negated, this is a clear disunity in parts of the church. -Feud
- Np dude, I'm going to have an Ecumenical Council to sort this stuff out. ~Cal
Antonio Ortolano votes Rotherham. ~Cal
Orsini votes Konstantinov to prove his point. ~Cal
Habemus Papam
After an unusually heavily contested Conclave, the Englishman Rotherham is elected Pope in 1520 by the closest of margins, coming to the throne of St Peter in a time of clear disunity and distrust throughout the Church.

Remember that although you are voting now, the election does not take place in-game until 1545, so do not mention it in-turn until then.
Additionally, since the reforms of the Council of Cologne, any Cardinal can be elected Pope (although electing the layman de Villiers would be unusual since he would have to be ordained a priest, then a bishop, then made pope; and electing Fugger would be unwise since he's about a million years old)
Votes:
Gerald Lumley and Robert Bradford votes for XX Patriarch of the Northern Rite in an attempt to quell the rising differences between the Latin and northern rites combined with also supporting allies in Brandenburg.
Fugger votes for himself.
Cardinals
Below is the section where you may propose Cardinals to fill in seats left vacant by a Cardinal's death. Please try to restrain your proposal to one Cardinal per nation, unless you'd like the risk of the College being filled by an entire nation of Cardinals, which is no fun anyway.
- Samuel Tóth, Archbishop of Bohemia
- Mario Moltisanti, Archbishop Of Milan
