The College of Cardinals is the collection of Cardinals within the Roman Catholic Church. Each Cardinal is appointed by the Pope and represents the upper echelon of the Catholic Church.The College is responsible for selecting the next Pope whenever the incumbent dies or decides to resign.
Rules for Players
For more player involvement, each player will be able to decide the vote of his or her respective Cardinals. If you do not sign off in the section below before the next turn after the Papal death it will be assumed that you are not interested in voting and your votes will go to Callum. NPC votes also go to Callum.
Since the reform of Leo X in his 1506 Bull Ecclesiam Cardinalibus, in order to be elected Pope, only a simple majority must be obtained. As there are fifteen Cardinals, there must be a vote of eight in order to become Pope. You are allowed to vote for yourself, but it is discouraged.

A surprise at the College of Cardinals! Cardinal Orsini tries to convince his fellow Cardinals that the men of the non-Latin rite should also be eligible for the papacy. He seeks the support of the Cardinals from the Bulgarian, Northern, and Greek Rites. -scraw
Papal States: The two States Cardinals are willing to accept the idea, but point out that as the Patriarch of the West and the bishop of a Latin-Rite diocese, the Papacy is a Latin-Rite position, meaning that were a non-Latin to be raised to the Holy See, he would have to be proficient in the Latin-Rite rubrics. They both vote for Rotherham.

Before the vote begins, the Papal electors, both connected to the conservative Angelicum faction, extol the virtues of Archbishop Baldrich of Cologne, the "Hammer of the Heretics", known for his orthodoxy, but also for his good relations with the Northern Rite.

Cologne: Archbishop Baldrich of Cologne is honoured with the votes of the Papal electors, and in turn votes for himself. The Archbishop of Dresden votes for himself as he had dutifully served the church for 40 years now and had decided that now at the old age of 60 he would run for the Papacy.
The Caridnal of paris secertly thinks that more Mongolians in Europe would serve the King by allowing his Zoo to have Mongolians inside it, therfore he votes for the patriarch of the east.
The Ecumenical Patriarch as well as the Metropolitan of Vasiligrad both but their votes behind the Ecumenical Patriarch seeing the first orthodox pope as being the best option to bridge the gap between Eastern Orthodoxy, Copts, and Catholics who have recently settled their differences. The Election of the Ecumenical Patriarch would be the perfect launching point for forays into other sects of christianity becomming pope as well.

Avingon Election, 1748
Proposed by the Coptic Bishops due to a lack of representation of the African rite, the Western European Churches organized a revised conclave in 1748 to elect a new Pope, declaring the Ecumenical Patriarch to be antipope. The main motivation behind the move was in reaction to the Ecumenical Patriarch, claimed as head of the long separated Orthodox Church, being made head of the Catholic Apostolic Church. This reactionist movement caught on the original porposal by the African Rite to organize the Avingon election in 1748.
