Crimea or the Republic of Crimea is a republic located in lower Crimea.
History
Pre-Doomsday
The territory of Crimea was conquered and controlled many times throughout its history. The Cimmerians, Greeks, Goths, Huns, Bulgars, Khazars, the state of Kievan Rus', Byzantine Greeks, Kipchaks, Ottoman Turks, Golden Horde Tatars and the Mongols all controlled Crimea in its early history. In the 13th century, it was partly controlled by the Venetians and by the Genovese; they were followed by the Crimean Khanate and the Ottoman Empire in the 15th to 18th centuries, the Russian Empire in the 18th to 20th centuries, the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic and later the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic within the Soviet Union in the rest of the 20th century, and Germany during World War II.
Doomsday
Kiev and other major cities in central and northern Ukraine were targetted during Doomsday. In southern Ukraine, some southern cities were attacked by conventional missiles. Other cities, like Sevaspool, Simferopol and Odessa, were destroyed by American ICBMs. Yalta, one of the most important resorts in Crimea, was spared because it represented no significant strategic threat to America or its allies.
Fallout from the nuclear war was devestating on the Crimean population, but natural factors kept Crimea from suffering worse than other regions on the continent.
Post-Doomsday
Mass hysteria gripped much of the Crimea following Doomsday and the collapse of the Soviet government. Out of the chaos the Crimean Tatars, who had become a minority in their homeland, took the opportunity to reestablish their independence and create a democratic state.
Civil Unrest
(to be continued.)
Economy
Crimea's ecomony is still recovering from Doomsday. Though food shortages are still common in Crimea, trade with its neighbors and aide from the more powerful nations of the Pacific has made the situation tolerable for most of the population. Recently, Crimea has begun several public works projects to repair its infrastructure. They are also working with the Don Republic to construct a railroad line between the two nations to improve trade.
