The 2012 Cygnian Labour Party leadership election was organised by the Cygnian Labour Party to select the next congressional leader of the party. The election was triggered when the party's Deputy Leader and the Vice Chancellor of Cygnia, Member for Lalor Julia Gillard, announced that she would be challenging the incumbent leader and Chancellor, Kevin Rudd of Griffith, for the leadership ahead of the 2012 federal elections. Ballots were held in all 21 states and in the Territory of Swan, with Rudd and Gillard being the only candidates for the leadership. Gillard won and became party leader and Chancellor.

President of the Labour Party Jenny McAllister formally declared at a meeting of the Labour Party National Executive on 30 July 2012 that Gillard had become the new leader of the Labour Party, upon which Rudd's term as leader was officially terminated. Gillard went on to lead the Labour Party to defeat at the 2012 elections, and became Leader of the Opposition.
