The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is an executive ministry of the Cygnian federal government charged with coordinating and supervising all agencies and functions of the government concerned directly with national security and the Cygnian Imperial Armed Forces. The Ministry of Defence is the largest of Cygnia's government divisions, with nearly 1.3 million employees as of 2016. It is headquartered in the Defence Complex, located in the Peelian city of Mandurah.

The Ministry of Defence is headed by the Secretary for Defence, who reports to the Minister of Defence, the Ministry's representative in the Cabinet of Cygnia. Beneath the Ministry are three subordinate military departments: the Cygnian Department of the Army, the Cygnian Department of the Navy, and the Cygnian Department of the Air Force. In addition, the Military Intelligence Directorate (MID), which coordinates the activities of the four Military Intelligence Bureaus – Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Lambda – is subordinate to the Ministry of Defence. Other Defence Agencies include the Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Defence Logistics Agency (DLA), the Missile Defence Agency (MDA), the Defence Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), and the Defence Security Service (DSS), all of which are under the command of the Secretary for Defence. Military operations are managed by Unified Defence Command.
