A Short History of Cyprus[]

Cyprus was an important island south of Turkey and west of Syria. This put it in a very good position to receive economic activity from ports coming from the Asian Provinces into the rest of the Mediterranean. The Cypriot people had been part of this extensive trade network for centuries but maintained a rather unique culture. Their Chief cultural influence were the Greeks and Greccia was the largest trading partner of the Cypriots. The Cypriot language, similar to the Greek, maintained importance and existence among the people of this island though many other languages coexisted there. The cult of Aphrodite was the most important of the religious orders on that island and was not averse to calling her Venus like the Roman. The sea foam from which she was born was believed to have left he on the island of Cyprus, giving the island fame among the Roman Polytheists.
