The Cyrene War was a conflict in 1968 in which Egypt invaded, occupied and annexed the Emirate of Cyrene, increasing the size of its territory by 25% and adding massive amounts of gas and oil supply. The aggressive move was backed by Egypt's primarily ally, the United States, and brought it up against a border with French Algeria. The Cyrene War was one of many factors in the French macroeconomic policy in the 1970s to invest heavily in nuclear energy and high speed rail technology over concerns about post-Black Sea War supply issues from the Middle East.
