Czechaustroslovakia (Czech/Slovak: Českrakouskoslovensko, German: Tschechosterslowakei), commonly referred to as Czechauslovakia or Czausvakia, is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It was a "show window" country for the Soviets to demonstrate communist efficiency alongside East Germany, until the dissolution of the USSR in 2001. It is bordered by Poland, Ukraine, Hungary, Zapadslavia, and Germany. It is part of the European Union.
Due to overwhelming German influence, the country has been lovingly and mockingly referred to as "Kleinesdeutschland", meaning "Little Germany". They joined the EU in 2006 along with Finland , Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Ukraine, and Zapadslavia.
Czechauslovakia was the only country to come out of the Eastern Bloc with a population and GDP on par with western nations by the end of the Cold War.
History[]
The area Czechauslovakia now inhabits has been through the hands of many peoples and empires, from Celts to Huns. The three major regions of Czechia, Austria, and Slovakia all were shaped from the death of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, with Austria being separated from its empire and Czechia and Slovakia remaining as one country.
OTL PoD[]
In 1938 Nazi Germany annexed Austria peacefully, setting up a precedence in future that Austria was German. When World War II was over and borders were being drawn, Austria was considered to be part of Germany and was partitioned with them.
Allied partition of Germany
In 1949, West Germany was formed from the British, American, and French sectors. The Soviets responded by creating the nation of East Germany from their two sectors located around Berlin and Vienna. This plan immediately started to fail, however. The East German exclave was unable to support itself and without western attention like the mainland of East Germany was getting, smuggling in supplies was rare. On top of that, defectors were rampant through the exclave as not only was their less focus from the west, but Russia too had a hard time focusing on it.
In 1950, the Soviet Union began looking for better options with how to deal with East Austria. Not being keen on recreating Austria-Hungary, the Soviets pushed for the exclave to join Czechoslovakia, which was finalised on the 4th of May, 1952.
The new nation of Czechauslovakia because a "show window" for the capitalist world, aimed at keeping positive eyes on communism. The standard of living in Czechauslovakia was higher than many of the neighbouring Socialist Republics, especially Hungary, which saw mass populations immigrate. Due to German being a common language for many Czechs, Slovaks, Hungarians, and of course, Germans. Czechauslovakia quickly became a German speaking nation.
Modern history[]
After the fall of the Soviet Union in 2001, various independence movements popped up, especially as East and West Germany reunited, however due to how relatively content the average Czausvak citizen was, none of the movements were successful. Czechauslovakia applied for EU membership in 2002 and joined the European Union in 2006.
Czechauslovakia enjoys a highly influential role in Eastern European politics, at the same time, the country is also a small player in the EU compared to Germany, Franglia, and Iberia. This is why, for the most part, Germany will often refer to Czechauslovakia as "Little Germany". Many political parties advocate for the returning of Carpathian Ruthenia from Ukraine. However, none have successfully done so yet, as well as advocating for uniting with Hungary to form the Centrope Republic (Czechaushunvakia).
