Czechoslovakia (Czech: Ceskoslovensko) is a Central European sovereign republic that has existed since the late 1940s in some form or another when the Austrian Empire collapsed. As of 2012, it has a population of approximately 17 million. Czechoslovakia is a Presidential republic, with a strong-executive form of government and a complementary bicameral legislature with a proportionately elected lower house called the General Assembly and a weak provincially-elected Senate.
