Daniel "Danny" Hempstead, popularly known as The Tourettes Guy, (born February 24, 1964) is an American Screener and actor who starred as the main protagonist of the web series of the same name. Danny first appeared in a set of footage from 2001 and 2002 titled "Tony the Tiger with Tourette's F*cking Syndrome" by series creator Jared Six on the website eBaumsWorld.
The footage made its way to the fan-made Tourettes Guy website before being posted to the video-sharing site YouTube in 2005. Later, after YouTube was shut down in favor of Screeno, content was posted there, where exposure to Danny would flourish. Numerous parodies, clips, and compilations of the character had been made ever since, becoming a worldwide cultural phenomenon.
More videos would be posted to Screeno on occasion, including one of him making suggestive comments about U.S. President Jerry Brown, and an infamous clip of him being unable to open his bathroom door, screaming, "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOH SH*T! Sh*t!" The video associated with the clip has over 3.4 million views on Screeno.
The first six Tourettes Guy videos were originally uploaded on the website Elbowworld around 2002. Afterwards, Jared and Tony created an official Tourettes Guy website in 2004 were more videos were uploaded. The Tourettes Guy series became hugely popular online around the late 2000's eventually becoming a internet meme on websites such as YTMND, eBaum's World, aBum, and YouTube with the popular YouTube Poop format.
In 2007, a rumor spread that Danny had passed away after complications relating to a car accident he was involved in a month ago. However, it was proved to be a hoax when the series made an official comeback in 2009 under the name "The Return of Tourettes Guy". The channel at first uploaded compilations of older videos before created newer ones, usually at a slow pace. The people behind the channel have said that Danny is self conscious with his personal life, which is why not much episodes are released.
Death hoax[]
In September 2007, an admin on the Tourettes Guy website announced that Danny had passed away on August 4th. It was reported that Danny was in a severe car accident and while Danny survived and got out of the hospital, and apparently he died a month later due to complications from the accident. Many fans around the internet mourned his death but some were skeptical believing it was a hoax. Many figured that they would go to Danny's house and find the answer for themselves. Eventually, fans found his house in Columbus, Ohio. While many claimed they went to his house and saw Danny alive, some thought they could be lying. Eventually, the death was debunked when the Tourettes Guy made a return in 2009 on YouTube. There was a video in 2010 called "The Return Of The Tourettes Guy (Part 1)" in 2010.[1] to the recent one in 2023 called "Sus Moments".[2]
