The Sultanate of Darfur (Arabic: دار فور dār fūr, lit. "realm of the Fur") is a nation in the former country of Sudan. A successor state to an independent sultanate that lasted several hundred years, and was incorporated into Sudan by Anglo-Egyptian forces. The nation is divided into three federal states: West Darfur, South Darfur, and North Darfur.
The Darfurians have struggled economically since Doomsday and the collapse of the Sudanese national government. However, in recent years the economy has seen record improvement. This is thanks to the aid given by the West African Union and an increase in the level of trade between the Sudanese remnant states. The Darfurian economy is roughly the equal to a pre-Doomsday "Iron Curtain" state.
Darfur maintains reasonable relations with the states that formed with the collapse of Sudan in 1987. They have also invited the West African Union into a dialogue. However it is too early for a clear result to be apparent.
