David Gardiner Tyler (July 12, 1846 – September 5, 1927) was the seventh president of the Confederate States, serving from 1898 to 1904. A member of the Readjuster Party, he previously served as Member of the C.S. House of Representatives from 1892 to 1898.
Tyler led the Confederacy to victory in the Spanish-Confederate War, after which he abolished slavery completely in the country and successfully integrated the new Spanish-speaking states of Cuba and Puerto Rico. He is considered one of the greatest Confederate presidents for those achievements.
