Welcome to Dawn of War Resurgence:

The year is 1948. World War II has ended in an overwhelming victory for the Western Allies and Soviet Union. There lies one exception, the co-belligerent South American federation or officially, the Federation de Sudamerica. Fought to a bloody stalemate in Central America and with both Superpowers burning coastal cities on the Gulf Coast to the ground, President Truman and the Western allies sign a bitter and hollow ringing peace with the "Great Other" to the south.

As Europe reels from the shattering of the whole of her society, the bringing of the holocaust into the light, and the deaths of untold millions, the British and French see their empires fall into unrest and disarray. The Franco-British Alliance, however, stands true through the storm. With French pride restored with the general uprising of 1945 bringing General de Gaulle into Paris and the arrival of hundreds of thousands of Allied troops, the two nations seek to bring European solidarity and unity. They strive to remain independent and relevant on the Global stage. Only time will tell if they succeed.

While the rest of the world has ripped itself apart, Asia in no exception. China has fought until the bitter end and stands victorious. The Japanese have inflicted untold atrocities on the Chinese nation. With the direct Invasion of Japan in 1946 by the Americans, and the Japanese troops languishing from logistical issues on the continent, Chiang Kai-Shek takes action. Launching the Tigers offensive of 46 the Chinese Army surges through China recapturing territory and pushing the Japanese off the continent in six months restoring order to most of China in the process. In a quick moment, the Chinese united front collapses and the Chinese civil war resumes lasting another two years. As Japanese Emperor surrenders the Chinese civil war finally ends with the Nationalists having destroyed all major opponents to their rule. Asia stands battered and broken, yet the Middle Kingdom is once again reunited and strikes out onto the world Stage.

The hollow victory of World War II leaving yet the strongest of the Axis powers intact, and with the Soviets and Chinese looking to dominant their own regions, many say that the Second World War was just the beginning of  a new era. One filled with war, death, and destruction. Yet another War stands ready on the Horizon.

Rules

The Main Rules of the Game are as follows. If any issues crop up, Mods and I will convene to edit or consider adding or changing rules.

Dawn of War algorithms

  • The main goal of these rules are to keep the game realistic. Every turn must be plausible and no one can achieve world domination in ten turns.
  • A turn is one day. Each turn is composed of actions, which can be militaristic, economic, diplomatic or constructive.
  • Turns begin at 12:00 Noon CST (5:00 PM UTC/1:00 PM EST). Do not edit past turns.
  • Any conquered lands have their inhabitants and they must be dealt with.
  • Keep in mind the linguistic effects of conquering and colonisation.
  • Every five years a map is to be made. A moderator marked as the Mapmaker will edit the map.
  • Every map must be saved as a .png on the current map template.
  • Each player will "call" a nation, this will be their main nation.
  • The moderators of this game have the power to grant and regulate all technology for each state as well as regulate plausibility. They also have the right to create random yet plausible and fair events in any and every nation throughout the course of the game.
  • Espionage is allowed and will be detailed later, there is a clear distinction between espionage and meta-gaming.
  • Alliances and unions are allowed as is bargaining to achieve these, although remember to be plausible.
  • If a nation is inactive then it is considered to have become isolationist and is fair game for conquering and attacking. However, there will be resistance.
  • There are super-national confederations (e.g., The Holy Roman Empire, The Kalmar Union, The European Union, The African Union, etc). They function like alliances and can be broken and formed.
  • You can commission privateers to raid a nation's shipping but they will reduce relations with the nation you hired them against.
  • The game ends in the present year.
  • Profile pages for your state are highly recommended. See here for an example.
  • If you are new, you may start the game in the turn that you joined.
  • No editing any past turns to contradict events which have already happened.
  • Not everyone can have an industrialized, liberal, stable, peaceful nation.
  • Unless your nation has been annexed in a war or vassalized as a result of war (see the mods for the last one), you may not switch nations.

1948.5

The Allies sign the Japanese instrument of surrender on the USS Missouri finally ending the war in Asia. Just days later the Federation and Allied delegations sign the Treaty of Havana delineating post war spheres of influence and boundaries. The treaty also leaves an open ended clause for Federation entry into the United Nations.

The British and Soviet armies evacuate Persia and Iraq Respectively restoring independent government to both nations.

The Constitution of the Italian Republic is put into place with a Democratic Italy beginning its own rebuilding programs in order to recover from the devastation of the war.

The Union of Burma declares independence from Britain declaring neutrality in foreign affairs and requesting Chinese and British troops evacuate the country by year's end.

The Federation of Malaya lobbies for independence from Britain hoping to have a response by year's end.

French troops finally begin their reoccupation of French Indochina.

The United States begins its occupations of Japan, South Korea, and Mexico looking to restructure the nations and rebuild them. Isolationist, Continentalist, and Globalist platforms begin to take root in the country taking advantage of a somewhat disappointing end to the war. Rebuilding of the affected Gulf Coast areas is also put on the budget this year to be voted on by Congress.

The Federation of South Americas demonstrations on electing the nations first Federal civilian government reach a fever pitch overtaking the various confederal movements many times over.

China claims total victory in the Civil war publicly executing Mao Zedong and establishing the KMT as the law of the land.

The Soviet Union and Yugoslavia have a falling out over the Greek civil war with Stalin wishing no further intervention while Tito sends men, material, and logistical support to the Greek communists.

  • Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: After the discovery of oil in Saudi Arabia, King Ibn Saud works to exploit this natural resource as much as possible. He places a moratorium on the further expansion of Arabian American Oil Company, and instead declares all new oil wells will be drilled by the newly created Arabian Standard Oil. This new company is placed under the control of Ibn Saud's son Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and immediately starts expanding production along the Gulf Coast. To cope with this influx of oil, expected to reach one million barrels per day by the end of the year, the port city of Damman is expanded, and the fleet of Saudi oil tankers, now all owned by Arabian Standard Oil, is expanded and upgraded. Wanting to ensure stability and Saudi primacy across the Arabian Peninsula, King Ibn Saud Invites the British to a summit in Jeddah regarding the future of our nations in the region. In addition, Ibn Saud asks to buy modern weapons from the Federation of South America in order to modernize the Saudi military as quickly as possible. specifically, he hopes to jump start the Saudi Air force with advanced bombers and fighters, and secure a reliable supply of tanks and hand held weapons for the Saudi Army. In order to effectively develop the military, Ibn Saud asks that training be included in such a weapons purchase. The Saudi Navy is also expanded, though its main role is to defend oil shipping routes close to home.
    • FoA Dip: The Federation agrees to selling weapons and a training regiment headed up by veterans of the war.
  • FoA: The protests this year shock many. With a somewhat favorable peace treaty and nearly ten million men demobilizing, many has seen and developed a camaraderie over the seven years of combat and deployments. Laden with emergency powers granted during the war and with mass demonstrations practically silencing the opposition to the continued holding of power by the Wartime government, the component nations of the Federation quickly orchestrate an election with over a dozen candidates from multiple member states running. The Election comes down to the Brazilian politician Getulio Vargas, and Field Marshall Juan Carlo Alvarez who agrees to retire in order to run for the elections. With support from the Generals and Admiralty as well as some of the most populous states in South America, President Alvarez is elected. The new government is established in the provisional capital in Brazil's West-Central highlands away from major population centers and located more directly central on the continent to prevent national favoritism. In order to make the country work the Federal system is directly established with the intent of abolishing the nation state system within the Federation and treating all the states equally. Seeking to maintain legitimacy as a government over all South America rather than a symbolic head of state of an economic union, some of the most urgent issues are assessed and addressed. Gran Colombia and Panama having suffered the most out of this war and being one of the prime proponents of the less centralized structure sees specific attention from the government to rebuild and develop. While a shaky subject Brazil, Chile, and Argentina all agree to fund the re-development project and specifically throw their support behind establishing national taxes rather than the regional taxes which highly impede the current tax system. Seeking to further capitalize on a growth of a sort of South American pride, President Alvarez takes special interest in showcasing the victories of the war specifically the acquisition of client states and even more importantly a defensive perimeter against further offensive actions by the United States. With international recognition as a singular state as well the Federation begins developing the trappings of a national identity celebrating Latin-American culture regardless of whether its Portuguese or Spanish in origin. A flag, a national anthem, multiple federal agencies to control taxation, national banking, and military matters with more to come. It remains crucial to the government this first year standing as a legitimate federal government rather than a coalition under emergency singular command during war time, to keep public opinion of the new government high. The Establishment of pensions and education for returning soldiers, military draw downs to address budget issues, and reinvigorating industry outside of a rather unprofitable military industry a key point issues. It becomes clear about four months into the formation of the government that all of South America is watching with interest how and if the government can actually hold this new nation together in peacetime. Without the spectre of an American invasion hanging over head of the people, many people are scared that rights and privileges almost the antithesis of what the countries the Federation fought along side with, will be revoked in a similar manner. President Alvarez and his government, idealists to a degree surprise many inside and outside the country with the drafting of a codified constitution, a bill of rights, and strictly governed federal and state powers. It even puts a pause to the anti-federalist protesters which have taken to the streets every weekend since the new governments elections who saw them as strongmen, and fascists looking to turn most of the people into slaves. It is expected that with a large industrial base, large natural resource reserves and with still a significant military, the Federation will fully coalesce into a formal power by late 1949 early 1950, fueled by its rivalry with the United States, and a developing concept of South American nationalism.
  • The Hashemite Kingdom of Iraq: King Fasial 2 is reinstated as the King of Iraq. King Fasial begins his rule by trying to maintain a positive relationship with the UK. He would begin his endeavors of hopping into Iraq politics by trying organizing and countering the many political factions within Iraqi society, from trying to crackdown on the somewhat popular Communist Parties of Iraq and trying to please the Arab Nationalists within the borders of Iraq. The Iraqi Petroleum Company is mostly left alone within Iraq, this gains the distaste of Arab and Iraqi nationalist within Iraq. We send an envoy to Britain asking for reunification with Kuwait by 1951.5, where Kuwait would be brought into Iraq, with the Kingdom of Iraq ruling over foreign affairs while the Kuwaiti government would maintain internal affairs, we ask for this on historical claim. The Iraqi Army is worked on as the King tries to make headway into the world of military politics with no relationships established. The Iraqi Royal Air Force and Army are worked on, we send an envoy to Britain asking if we could purchase 22 Hawker Furies, 12 Avro Ansons, 10,000 Lee Enfields, and 100 Matilda tanks.
  • Empire of Ethiopia: While World War 2 for the rest of the world ends in 1948, in Ethiopia the fighting has been over for nearly seven years, with the British led "Gideon Force" liberating Ethiopia in 1941 and the Emperor Haile Selassie formally reentering Addis Ababa on May 5, 1941. While Britain turned its attention north to slug it out in Europe with the ailing Third Reich, Haile Selassie attempted to restore his authority across the nation. With the Italian occupation having devastated the countryside and the Ethiopian nobility's ability to militarily and economically resist the Emperor's centralization reforms, the Ethiopian nobility quickly entered into negotiations in the hopes of protecting and retaining some of their feudal rights in exchange for greater centralization. To that end the Constitution of 1948, also known as "The Great Bargain" is written and developed. The Constitution provides and delegates certain powers to the Emperor and to the Chamber of the Ras, a parliament entirely consisting of hereditary noble lords. The Constitution grants the Emperor the sole right to raise taxes and levy an army as well as to appoint Imperial Governors to the regions of Ethiopia. These governors are sent to curb the exploitation of the peasants by local landlords and to root out corruption and install efficiency in the local government administration. To that end, the Imperial Governors are granted the ability to fire any public official and appoint anyone they seek to any position. The Emperor also has the right to create government ministries and to appoint ministers to lead them without the approval of the Chamber. However, the Chamber of the Ras retain the right to veto any legislation proposed by the King, and retains the right of discretionary review over any petition submitted to the King by non-government civilians. However, the Emperor can call for a national referendum on any piece of legislation to overturn the Chamber's veto. All members of the Chamber of the Ras and their families are also exempt from taxation. The new Constitution also abolishes the previous Ethiopian tradition of granting noble titles to people appointed to government positions, instead referring to them as "public servants." The Ethiopian government also began the creation of a standing army. To help accomplish this, the Empire signs the US-Ethiopian Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Alignment. The Emperor also confiscates all captured Italian military equipment and left-behind British military equipment from the local nobility and uses it to arm his personal bodyguard, the Abergnoch, a military task force about 12,000 strong. The Emperor renames this task force the Imperial Guard, and hopes to use the Imperial Guard as the nucleus around which the Ethiopian standing army will be formed. The Emperor also hopes to begin revitalizing the Ethiopian economy, which was largely based on agriculture before the war. In the hopes of modernizing the Ethiopian economy and lessening the Empire's reliance on agriculture and thus diversifying the Empire's economy, the Empire of Ethiopia signs the Saudi-Ethopian Trade Agreement with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the hopes of rapidly developing the Empire's industrial mining sector.
  • Rhodesia: We start with Prime Minister Godfrey Huggins first sending representatives to Northern Rhodesia to form a closer bond between the two Rhodesia's. While not much occurs. There are whispers of a united Rhodesia. The Rhodesian government also starts an advertisement campaign across Europe lead by Roy Welensky to get more Europeans to move to Rhodesia, offering a cool climate, large tracks of land, and the right to vote in Rhodesian parliamentary elections. Plans to expand the Cape Cairo railway to independent lines across the two Rhodesia' start up. The Salisbury government seeks to obtain the copper mines of Northern Rhodesia to economically bind the two territories and create economic prosperity for greater Rhodesia.
  • Republic of China: We start by starting a rebuilding of our country, as it was destroyed by the war. The Chinese occupation of Northern Korea continues, as Chinese soldiers help Korea rebuild. The northeast, which has suffered most, is rebuilt, and the Chinese nation starts to relieve. China demands justice be applied to all Japanese war criminals, including those within the Imperial Family (Allied and Japanese response). President Chiang starts the rebuilding of Nanking, Suzhou and Shanghai, especially. We withdraw our troops from Burma, as requested by the new independent government there, and offer an alliance between us and Burma (MOD Response). However, we deeply and completely oppose the reoccupation of Indochina by the French, and demand that France decolonize this area of Asia immediately (France response). A restructuring of China's subdivisions also happens, with a federal level implemented, and with autonomy for Tibet, Uyghuristan and Inner Mongolia. Tibet especially may keep its form of government, but must ultimately defer to the government of China for foreign affairs. We ask the United States to also consider electing a new government in Korea, in order to stop an unnecessary occupation (United States response). We also look for partners in our attempts to industrialize the country, accepting investment from outside.
    • French Response: We would like to inform the ROC that plans have been made concerning the establishment of an independent Indochinese State
    • Chinese Response: We are happy with this reply, but want an answer as soon as possible.
    • Japanese Response: We accept and hand over all war criminals - the only one within the royal family being Prince Asaka.
    • US Response: We agree to the withdrawal from our occupation zones and let elections take place in Korea. We are also positive to giving up war criminals to China or having them trialed at the Hague International Court of Justice for crimes against humanity, not just those who would have to answer for crimes against the Chinese people but also against the Philippines, Korean and any other (East) Asian people to create the conditions for long lasting peaceful cooperation in the region by mending the relations between the respective nations.
    • Burma: We agree to said alliance.
  • Fourth French Republic: With the end of World War 2 and peace returning to Europe, the Fourth French Republic begins re-consolidating its former Colonies. With the reoccupation of Indochina and opposition from China the French Government decides to establish a puppet states in the region to prevent uprisings from the Vietnamese, Establishing the Imperial State of Vietnam under former Japanese puppet, Bảo Đại while also establishing another puppet government in Laos under Sisavang Phoulivong while Cambodia will remain under direct French occupation to house the main French Garrison in the region composed of 200,000 Men while also deploying a Carrier Battle Group in the South China Sea. Meanwhile, plans are made to establish similar client states in Africa as negotiations are underway with African Nationalists. Meanwhile, Charles de Gaulle proposes the Monnet Plan demanding that the US agrees to allow the French Republic to gain control of the Rhineland area as Charles de Gaulle states that he wants to see Germany’s military and industrial capabilities hindered. Meanwhile, the reconstruction of France resumes as the Communists in France begin to lose influence after a series of terrorist attacks committed by hard-line Communists occur in France.
  • Sorry but you want to try to hold your colonies and annex a part of Germany? Your political will to make all this happen isn't necessarily there. -Feud
  • Commonwealth of Philippines: President Sergio Osmena sends The the Treaty of Manila to be ratified by the US government. If ratified, it would make the Philippines independent.(US RESPONSE NEEDED)(More to come after the US has answered.
  • Spanish State: With the end of second world war and the victory of the allied powers, Franco sees the necessity to move away from proto- Fascism and Falangism in favour of Catholicism and a technocracy. In a semi-purge of the Council of Ministers starting with Alberto Martin- Artajo being appointed Foreign Minister. The foreign minister travels to Rio de Janeiro to meet with President Alvarez where he makes a speech in Portuguese to the press saying he is proud of their similarities in strong Catholic ties and hopes Spain can in time emulate the Federation's growth in wealth and transition to democracy at the same time and the foreign minister then goes on to Washington to make similar speeches. We request the US consider giving aid to Spain to help its recovery from the civil war. Reports of these speeches are not published back home. Envoys are sent to Western Europe about relaxing trade restrictions. The military is downsized to some 150,000 with 20,000 deployed in Spanish Morocco, 20,000 in Spanish Guinea and another 10,000 in the Western Sahara.
    • Economy: After years of autarky, Mariano Navarro Rubio a member of Opus Dei is appointed Minister of Finance and brings other technocrats into the government over Falange. Barriers to trade are lowered. A tax reform is being prepared with four basic taxes in the form of income, corporation, land value and a sales tax. With the income and the corporation taxes being progressive with three bands each with land value tax and wealth tax in line with the bank interest rate The government plans a new infrastructure program to be carried out as deficit spending involving the construction of new and upgrading existing railways.
    • Education: A new focus on reading is instituted with a national programme solely using phonics for all schools starting at age four and taking three years with tests conducted every year. Children are also tested for convergence insufficiency and phonological deficit every year. Children who fail these tests are put on specialised interventions improving convergence and phonological awareness. Children who continue to fail see their parents fined and the schools performing poorly in published league tables. The government plans to push literacy above 99% for this generation of students.
    • US Response: We provide whatever aid is request by our Spanish affiliates.
  • Greece: Greece is still locked in a civil war, the north are under solid Communist and republican rule under the leadership of Nikolaos Zachariadis, general secretary of the KKE and Markos Vafiadisa as the general of the Dimokratikos Stratos Elladas, the Democratic Army of Greece. The south, meanwhile, is still under royalist control. Heavy Yugoslav support on the communists comes in through the DSE controlled regions of Macedonia, the Epirus and parts of Thrace. despite Zachariadis' pressure toward Markos to wage a conventional warfare, Markos insists on the undeniably still very effective guerrilla warfare. To avoid conflict, Markos and Zachariadis strictly split their resorts; Zachariadis becomes head of the KKE and manages the political affairs while Marcos leads the military campaigns. Foreign aid, however, is decided upon collectively. Additionally it is agreed that no capital will be declared as an official, new communist capital unless Athens itself is under solidified KKE control. The guerrilla campaigns have been spreading east, with General Markos requesting aid from the Bulgarian army to secure the region (MOD RESPONSE NEEDED). SECRET Despite the fact that the USSR doesn't want to engage in the civil war, aid is requested by pro-Stalin politician Nikolaos Zachariadis from them in exchange for air strips and naval bases in the Aegean Sea (USSR RESPONSE NEEDED) SECRET END The Greek Army, meanwhile, is losing men and material to the very costly campaigns, but their morale is still high and their supplies don't seem to run out soon either.
  • Occupied Japan: The Japanese royal family makes a large amount of requests to the US through General MacArthur and to China. Following the handing over of war criminals the royal family requests Chinese and American help in the process of rebuilding a nation crippled by war. (Chinese and American responses needed.) The Military command is in shambles following the Chinese war criminals being handed over and a process begins to figure out how the Military command will work following the war. A request is sent to the US to help design a new Japanese constitution in order to deal with the mess that is the former Japanese government.
    • US Response: We provide whatever aid is request by our Japanese affiliates as well as help to draft a new Japanese constitution, dispatching a team made out of our best experts in constitutional and juridical issues made out of Former Presidents, Supreme Court Judges and renowned lawyers to assist the Japanese with their new constitution.
  • French North Africa: The war is over, and we are victorious! Our men have returned from the battlefields of Europe and a new era begins. A man by the name of Yves Chataigneau becomes temporary military governor of Algeria and Tunisia in order to oversee their reconstruction. Governor Chataigneau requests aid from the French government to help with rebuilding the North Africans departments. (FRENCH RESPONSE NEEDED) Reconstruction begins with an employment of both French and Arab workers to help rebuild Algiers and Tunis along with other important cities.
  • Afghanistan: King Mohammed Zahir Shah recognizes the need for the country to become modernized and decides to enact wide sweeping reforms in the country, particularly in government, education, economy, and military. Plans are made for a bicameral parliament, with an elected lower house and an appointed upper house consisting of tribal elders. The voting will be limited to male Afghan citizens over the age of twenty. Plans are also made to establish high schools in every province, and a modern European-style university in every provincial capital. Government officials and army officers will be sent to European countries to receive training. A modern army is to be established, with a new decree proclaiming the establishment of the "Afghan National Army." Soldiers and officers will not be tribal levies but will be required to complete training as regulars. Agriculture is also being given more attention in development, with many different crops being grown and the government is offering subsidies for farmers to expand their operations and grow more food. Afghan diplomats reach out to Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and China, offering the same deal: foreign investment from them in Afghanistan in exchange for being given a large stake in the mining and gas industries (Player Responses).
  • Egypt: The official end of the war is celebrated across the country. To celebrate the occasion King Farouk I delivers a radio address to the country and declares this a new period of Egyptian independence and nationalism.  But behind the scenes there are many problems facing the Egyptian nation. Across the country there are several nationalist groups who resent the presence of British troops in the country.  Much of the local bureaucracy also suffers from high levels of corruption with King Farouk spending large amounts of money on an extravagant lifestyle and grand tours of Europe. There is also a divide between the administration of Egypt and Sudan.  Economically, the country needs some substantial land reforms and a push toward industrialization.  To solve some of these problems the government begins to invest in roads and railroads across the country.  To the UK, the government of Egypt request the withdrawal of British troops from most of the country to the Suez Canal Zone.
    • FoA Dip: We offer our support to the Egyptians offering to send advisors in the realm of nation building and national organization. We also begin to offer investment by late 1949 once the national situation as has stabilized.
    • Egyptian Dip: We accept.
  • Federation of Canada: With the war now over, Canadians across the nation celebrate the victory of the Allies. Many Canadian soldiers are ordered to return by the time occupation of Germany ends. The Federation also declares that all refugees in Europe and Asia are welcome with open arms to Canada. The Federation also decide to send economic aid to Europe to help out UK and France.
  • United States of America: On November 2nd elections take place in the US in what appears to be a close run between Former Pres. Harry S. Truman and Thomas E. Dewey in a very polarized theme revolving around the naval invasion of Japanese heartlands cost in lives of American soldiers, as well as the catastrophic firebombing of Houston and other war ravaged areas with veteran soldiers, associations, especially those previously involved in the invasion and common citizens afflicted by this blaming Pres. Harry S. Truman with a sizable chunk of these people mostly from the Northern and Western states rallying around Thomas E. Dewey. During the campaign un unlikely candidate, a third party underdog emerged more powerful than ever. A former Democrat dismayed by the progressive Democrat attempts to enforce civil rights in what they saw as a path to the complete abolition of racial segregation, Strom Thurmond, rallied the Southern Democrats who had walked out of the Democratic National Convention (The Democrat state parties of South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, Arkansas and Tennessee) to protest the civil rights platform approved by the convention, and supported by Truman and formed their own political party, the States Rights Democratic Party (Dixiecrats). His fiery speeches on the campaign trail and his strategy of constantly blaming Pres. Truman for pointlessly sending to their deaths thousands of US soldiers in the invasion of Japan, the catastrophic firebombing of Houston and other (Southern) areas ravaged by the war with the FSA and also staunch resistance to the civil rights platform rallied the conservatives, the reactionaries, the segregationists and the southern veterans of WW2 behind him, thus securing him the states of South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, Arkansas and Tennessee, the last by a few hundred votes margin. With (LA 10, MS 9, AL 11, SC 8, GA 12, ARK 9, TENN 8) 67 electors his objective of extracting concessions from either Truman or Dewey on racial issues in exchange for their support had been achieved as neither Truman nor Dewey holded a majority of electors. Truman staunchly refused any kind of compromise in general even while he had a few more electors than Dewey on his own, Republican Thomas E. Dewey became the new US President after reaching a compromise with the Dixiecrats to pull back several progressive reforms such as the racial integration of the US army and allow the undisrupted continuation of the Jim Crow state Laws causing a lot of upheaval within his own party. WW2 has cost us dearly in lives and resources, yet we came out of it stronger than we have ever been, with Western Europe in ruins, Eastern Europe under the bloodthirsty Soviet regime and South America emerging as a new threat to our south, several fundamental reforms must take place to adjust to our new role as the leader of the Free World. The congress is heavily split over domestic issues, obstructing any reform from taking place. However, the same doesn't apply for foreign policy, where the threat of the FSA to the South and the Soviet Union in Europe sees the two factions setting aside their differences in foreign affairs and acting for the good of the nation. A new tactic is spearheaded by the oval office to deal with the threat to our south, as occupied Mexico heavily in favor of a unification with the rest of Latin America could turn against as at any time given. The first act Pres. Thomas E. Dewey passes almost unanimously from the congress is the formation of an independent Mayan state in the Yucatan peninsula and Chiapas, as successor of the short lived Yucatan republic over 100 years ago. Their self-administration is granted, the borders with FSA are undergo a large scale project to create a vast fortifications line all across the Mayan-FSA borders. A lot of resources are diverted toward creating infrastructure in the Maya state, while our private investment is heavily encouraged. In the US, Native American reservations rumors spread of a majestic place in the south that could form their new homeland and limited immigration in the Maya state takes place. Government takes notice and starts to heavily encourage this, advertising this new paradise for native people in US reservations, while also subsidizing their immigration there. The aim is to displace the local Mexican population from the borderline region with the FSA, as no doubt they would work against us in case of war. The congress continues to deliberate on independence for the Nahuatl, Zapotec, Mixtec, Otomi, Totonac and other indigenous people of Mexico. Also the reconstruction of Houston, Southern States and other places afflicted by the war takes place as heavy investment is pumped to speed up and finish the reconstruction efforts as soon as possible. An expeditionary force made up of 40.000 men is send to assist the rightful government of Greece in their struggle against the communist rebels. On the field of foreign affairs an approach is made to the Republic of China by our ambassador there, with President Dewey proposing to visit Nanjing and his Chinese colleague President Chiang Kai-Shek to follow this up with a visit in Washington, DC to discuss and lay out the terms for a possible cooperation in the post World War world. [Chinese Response]+
    • Chinese response: We accept the gracious offer, and begin planning to host President Dewey in Nanjing.

1949.0

The post war recession kicks in all over the world with many nations being forced to address the crisis and demobilize their militaries. The Recession takes great toll on the democratic nations of the world more susceptible to pressures like this

Veterans in the US, FoA, Britain, and France all begin demanding more than just monetary compensation for their efforts in the previous war. In the United States particularly many men see the war as having robbed them of some of the best years of their lives only to return to no jobs, no prospects for schooling, and most importantly, no safety net to ensure their post war stability. This effect occurs on all of these nations but more intense within the USA

The FoA continues to see demonstrations for the return of the confederal government rather than the current Federal government in power. Many argue that the wartime emergency powers granted to the military and wartime coalition government were illegal. While lesser in size compared to the previous year, the addition of wartime veteran demonstrators brings the numbers to about the same as last year.

The creation of the International Monetary Fund is wracked with issues as only the US, and the Allied nations of Western Europe are current participants. It is believed by the current head of the IMF that the inclusion of states such as the Soviet Union, China, and Federation of South America that the IMF could be properly established and cover most of the global financial market.

The Bulgarian government effectively a Soviet Puppet government refuses to aid the Greek Communists in the civil war and closes off their borders. The Greek communists only connection to the Communist world remains through the Macedon Road set up by Yugoslavia.

The Viet Minh begin to organize themselves following reoccupation by the French and their perceived puppet governments. Staying under the radar. Ho Chi Minh arrives in Moscow to discuss with Joseph Stalin the possibility of aid.

While somewhat delayed due to the wars recent ending, the Nuremburg trials are held and expanded to include Japanese war criminals as well. The US, French, British, and Chinese are all to preside over the trials and dictate the fate of the captured war criminals.

The declaration of Independence in Egypt shocks the British and French but their legislative houses of government refuse to take action citing "The need to rebuild and restructure rather than orchestrating yet another war."

  • Republic of China: We continue rebuilding  our country, as it was destroyed by the war. We prepare for the holding of elections in Korea, asking that the United States also prepare for this in their respective occupation zone. The Yangtze river valley, which has suffered a lot in the war, is rebuilt, and the Chinese nation starts to normalize. China allows Prince Asaka to be tried by the International Court of Justice in the Hague, but insists that all other war criminals involved in crimes against Chinese and Manchurian peoples be tried by an Allied court in Nanjing. Shanghai and Nanjing are rebuilt, and a monument to the victims of the Rape of Nanjing is built in preparation for the US visit. We offer an alliance between us and Burma (MOD Response). Seeing the puppet governments in former Indochina and the blatant occupation of Kampuchea, we once again demand that France decolonize this area of Asia immediately, and not continue to occupy it under the veil of a puppet government. (France response). Demobilization happens as a result of the economic downturn, and troops are given large tracts of abandoned land as recompense for their service. However, troops remain stationed on the border with the Soviet Union and with the French puppets in Indochina. We also look for partners in our attempts to industrialize the country, accepting investment from outside.
    • US Response: President Dewey in his visit discusses the possibility for further collaboration with the Republic of China and extends his offer of cooperation with actions such as granting them preferential trade partner status and encouraging limited US private investment in China, especially in the infrastructure and industrial sectors, especially in the coastal regions, seeking the friendship of the Chinese people as a counterweight to the Soviet threat.
  • Soviet Union: Reconstruction continues. With Stalin pressing Soviet Allies to hand over materials and machinery to rebuild the war torn western parts of the country. Internal crackdowns and show trials continue as the NKVD rounds up anti-communists in eastern Europe, or critics of Stalinist' policies. Stalin agrees to send supplies to Ho Chi Minh along with Military advisors. After taking into consideration the advice of his generals and the politburo, In particular Beria, Molotov, and Khrushchev Stalin decides to reverse his stance on Greece, and agrees to send guns, 20,000 volunteers, and advisors in exchange for the right to hold bases there, Seeing an opportunity to break out of the strategic encirclement that has crippled Russian naval capacities for years. Secret action NKVD, and Red Army intelligence continue to penetrate western society collecting intel on matters ranging military equipment, and technology to diplomatic matters occurring there. Major efforts are put in particular into securing blueprints to build the  Nuclear bomb. research and development into the Soviet nuclear program continues along with research into the rockets, and into the development of more sophisticated jets. Despite his portrayal of the iron man Stalin's health begins a steady decline concealed from the public after years of war. Field Marshal Zhukov continues to oversee the overall occupation of East Germany, and in many cases has complete autonomy. A diplomatic mission is sent to Nanjing to discuss future relations between China and the Soviet Union. Stalin secretly sends agents of the state to murder Yugoslav leader Tito.
    • Iraq Dip: An envoy is sent to Moscow asking for the establishment of a Soviet embassy in Baghdad and an Iraqi embassy in Moscow. We also ask if Iraqi teachers/students visit the USSR and ice versa in the following years.
  • Federation (Sorry, I can't pick a name): The Federation concedes to the veterans march offering government paid schooling, favorable loans on housing, and most importantly a promise to build a house for every family, a school for every child. This sees the economy address the backdrop of the crisis with hundreds of thousands being employed in construction for the expansion of cities and more importantly the development of towns and some countryside outside the cities to provide mass housing for the veterans and any others who can afford to begin buying and developing housing. The constitution is finally signed in earnest which quells the vast majority of the non veteran protests as it delineates certain unalienable rights while also proving to the world another viable democratic superpower to the United States exists and will persist. The rebuilding of the nations northern regions continues with Barranquila having been somewhat rebuilt during the bombing being the primary receiver of the national reconstruction fund. While the Nazis were indeed terrible people it is noticed that some of their technological and infrastructural developments were forward thinking and the authorization of a National Highway system is put forward. A comprehensive and highly developed automotive highway network will purportedly connect the country, and objectively remove some of the issues regarding communication and governance. Some of these highways blatantly push through the Amazon but specific precautions are taken in order to preserve natural beauty and prevent wanton destruction on the jungle. While it has become obvious that various German scientists have been taken by both the Soviets and the United States, the Federation quietly recruits German intellectuals and scientists who fled Europe before the fall of Berlin effectively jump starting the Federation rocketry program which sees a site for research and development in Guyana. Further integrationist policies occur bringing more and more areas of the country refusing to fall in line with the Federal government most prominently in Peru and Bolivia. The Military, in one instance, enforces Federal control on the capital of Peru. The usage of Peruvian troops surprises the people who are amazed their own countrymen would betray them for what they see as an illegitimate government. However, the support of the military being high and Peru being slated for a good amount of the national development funds placates the masses effectively. The Federation navy begins its own drawback has hundreds of unneeded ships are scrapped and the Navy reassesses its roles specifically in the development of modern Pacific and Atlantic fleets seeking to take advantage of newly developed Jet Aircraft. Having already developed some jets from the war, the next generation the EF-5 is launched seeking to be a direct competitor to both Soviet and American deployed craft. This research into bombers is done as well with the development of a Jet based Strategic bomber occupying much of the air forces attention. The Federation offers aid in the development of Saudi and Ethiopian oil deposits. The Panama Canal is re-opened to great fanfare and the development of Federation client states continues in earnest with investment beginning to help the local economies begin to recover as a result. Taking from the principles of Keynesian economics in order to combat the recession high levels of government spending are put into the economy in order to effectively stimulate growth. Heavy research and espionage is put into the development of a nuclear weapon with the possibility of the United States already having one a very present thing in the minds of the government and generals. The infiltration of the project is taken in earnest with dozens of agents deployed taking advantage of the large Spanish speaking population in the United States to help infiltrate.
    • Saudi Arabia Gratefully agrees to the development aid for oil, and asks that it takes the form of money and technical aid to the Saudi Standard Oil Company
    • Fires ooc note: I think Ethiopian oil deposits are inaccessible/useless at current tech levels, they weren't accessed OTL until 2018, but I don't know why that was so it might be possible worth looking into.
  • The Hashemite Kingdom of Iraq: An envoy is sent to the FoA asking for the opening of a political relationship. The Iraqi Communist parties go underground following government crackdowns against the group, mostly gaining support in Baghdad and surrounding Areas. Arab Nationalist and Baathist begin to gain traction within the Iraqi army, many inspired by current actions in Egypt. The foreign Iraqi Petroleum Company is replaced with an Iraqi-made and government owned oil company named the Iraq Gas and Petroleum Company being enacted by King Faisal after being influenced by his cabin. This starts off with a good amount of bumps in the road. The Iraqi Army is worked on as the King tries to make headway into the world of military politics with no relationships established. The Iraqi Royal Air Force and Army are worked on, we send an envoy to the FoA asking if we could purchase weaponry.
    • Fed Dip: The Federation agrees on weapons sales as well as an offering a loan and a deal to develop the Iraqi Oil deposits further.
  • Spanish State: Franco continues to maintain an iron fist over Spain. Seeing the beginning of a recession we request to join the IMF (IMF response). The government, seeing the incredibly low agricultural production, begins preparing to consolidate the fragmented minifundismo over the next few years. The military has remained small and underfunded currently. 20,000 soldiers deployed in Spanish Morocco, 20,000 in Spanish Guinea and another 10,000 in the Western Sahara with 100,000 in Spain. We request the United States for a loan of $500 million to fund the expansion of the civil guard (rural police) by 100,000 men in part coming from veterans. 5,000 soldiers are deployed to Greece to support American operations landing at Volos with the soldiers moving north to the Olympus Pass and digging in.
    • Economy: The new taxation system of income tax, corporation tax, land value tax and wealth tax is introduced, efforts are made to reduce the bureaucracy with large scale redundancies ordered in all departments. Due to a recession deficit spending is increased and interest rates are slashed by the Bank of Spain. New infrastructure projects begin with efforts to electrify the railway and purchase electric trains as well as to construct new towns by using prefabricated housing on the outskirts of cities. The GDP is $116 billion nominal.
    • Education: The focus on reading is maintained with a national programme solely using phonics for all schools at age four and taking three years with tests conducted every year.
    • US Response: We approve the loan request, along with encouraging US private investment in the Spanish state, especially in the infrastructure and industrial sectors, giving them preferential trade partner status.
  • Afghanistan: The National Mining Corporation is established in Kabul with the goal of making the development of the mining industry more effective, and King Mohammed Zahir Shah offers the United States and Saudi Arabia a stake in the company and Afghanistan's mineral deposits in exchange for investment in the country. Gold, copper, coal, lead, gems, iron ore, chromite, barite, zinc, and natural gas are given priority in developing among many other natural resources. Mining is expected to provide the majority of government revenue in the coming decades. The Royal Afghan Army is established with 35,000 regular troops, and a military academy is opened in Kabul with European-trained instructors. The curriculum is based on Western military science. Plans are made to open military schools in every province. The remaining tribal forces will form the basis of the Afghan National Security Force, which will act as a gendarmerie and reserve. The Royal Afghan Air Force is also formally created. Afghan nationalism is also promoted to troops as a way of overcoming tribal politics and instilling a sense of unity among the soldiers and officers. Schools are starting to be opened, beginning with the Kabul University, to provide a modern Western-style education to the elite of the country. Regular secondary schools are also to be opened in every province for mandatory education. Agriculture is further developed so that more food is produced, including for exports.
    • Saudi Dip: Ibn Saud agrees to substantially invest in Afghan development, as long as Arabian Standard Oil Company is given sole permission to develop Afghan Oil and Gas deposits
    • Afghan Diplomacy: King Zahir Shah agrees to grant the Arabian Standard Oil Company the sole right to develop Afghan oil and gas, in the Afghan-Saudi Trade Agreement.
  • Turkey: We are governing our region Turkish province and we are going to develop our agriculture and making border safety immigration are such allowed as Palestinians and Syrian, due to our occupation we operated a safe border of Syria to make sure we're safe. We dispatch our finest troops - 10,000 in total - to assist the rightful government and the King and fight alongside Greek and US forces against the communist rebels under US command.
  • Rhodesia: Current efforts are being taken to start the construction of roads and railways into Northern Rhodesia. Meanwhile, officially the campaign of "Rhodesia Calls" begins, as money is set up for advertisement campaigns in Western Europe to settle on the fertile plains of Rhodesia. With a good climate, friendly neighbors, and well mannered servants, who doesn't want to live a life of luxury while working hard in Rhodesia. Meanwhile, Ian Smith's entry into politics begins with him detesting a South African trade deal. Smith also makes a speech in Parliament proposing the creation of an independent Rhodesian armed forces, different from mere colonial troops. The United Rhodesia party stands behind PM Huggins. Huggins travels to London, to seek approval to create a Federation of Rhodesia by 1950 which may or may not include the 7,000 white settlers of Nyasaland as well (Brrrritish Reponse/rolling r EoGuy).
  • Occupied Japan: Following large discussion and debate the first draft of the Japanese Constitution is finished. The First elections will take place in late 1949 to early 1950 if approved by the Americans. (American Response needed). The Japanese Industry begins to be rebuilt following the war and any people from the outside who are looking to be a part of a redefined nation are invited to help deal with the over 15 million casualties that were suffered in the second world war. (Mod response needed). The Japanese people request American and Chinese help as they attempt to rebuild there industry. (American and Chinese responses needed.) The Japanese people dishonored by war and discouraged by occupation take to the streets requesting help in any way possible. Farmers finally return to there fields but following the invasion finding workers is hard as people are scared. Some people are more motivated to work as it gives them something to get there minds off of it others don't want to do anything worried that there pay won't matter. The First Election is scheduled to be held later this year.
    • Constitution Confirmed by Bear on discord.
    • US Dip: The constitution is approved, elections are allowed to take place and limited US private investment is encouraged, especially in rebuilding industry and infrastructure along with preferential trade partner status that is bestowed upon Japan. Substantial loans are also offered by US financial institutions.
  • Republic of the Philippines: After the friendship treaty with the US being signed, general elections are scheduled and held this year with the presidential race being won by incumbent president Sergi Osmena from the nacionalista party. The 24 seats in the senate are divided between the nacionalista which gains a majority with 13 seats with the rest of the seats going to the liberal party. President Osmena's first act after returning to the office is to rename the country to the Republic of the Philippines. Other act done this year is the construction of a new capital citing the destruction and war torn status of Manila. The new capital city is to be named Quezon City in honor of the late president Manuel Quezon. Meanwhile, President Osmena begins to hold weekly radio broadcasts telling the people what the government is working on at the moment.
  • Egypt: Following his bold speech declaring Egyptian independence, King Farouk becomes a nationalist symbol to many in Egypt, returning some support for the shaky monarchy. The king, along with the Wafd dominated parliament, officially declares the creation of the Kingdom of Egypt and Sudan. One of the first declarations of the new kingdom is to declare a neutral foreign policy and a promise to respect foreign owned businesses in the country. With the help of advisors from the FOA, much of the bureaucracy is reformed, with many corrupt officials purged from the administration and new ones trained to take their place. In the Sudan, much of the colonial bureaucracy remains in place for now with promises to create a national parliament for the region. We also begin the creation of a national army centered on veterans from WW2 and begin to recruit and train more soldiers. The country continues to build and improve infrastructure and begins to offer tax breaks to local businesses as well as attract foreign investors to the country. To the UK, the Government of Egypt requests the withdrawal of British troops from most of the country to the Suez Canal Zone.
  • Empire of Ethiopia: The US Military Mission to Ethiopia arrives, being personally greeted by the Emperor himself who tells them “I place the security of my Empire into your hands gentlemen.” The US military officers quickly begin a professionalization of the military and begin working on a program to drill and train the 12,000 soldiers in the Ethiopian Imperial Guard, also known as the Kebur Zabagna. Additionally, a plan is created to recruit 25,000 new conscripts by the end of the year. To help coordinate the efforts to modernize and professionalize the military the Emperor creates the Imperial Ministry of War, appointing General George S. Patton as the first Imperial Minister of War. Incoming shipments of American military supplies, such as rifles, artillery, and military vehicles turns the Imperial Army into an increasingly well armed and armored force. Particularly, the jeeps purchased by the Empire prove extraordinary capable of operating and driving in the rough Ethiopian terrain, turning the Imperial Army into a more mobile force better capable of conducting operations in the East African landscape, The technocrats and engineers sent by the Arabian Standard Oil begin conducting a number of  exploratory drilling operations throughout Ethiopia, searching for precious minerals. To the surprise of many, including the Ethiopians, the exploratory missions find evidence of gold throughout the country as well as other valuable metals, such as iron, platinum, and copper. Coal deposits are also found along with evidence of precious gemstones. With Saudi investments and experienced technocrats and engineers the Ethiopian government immediately begins developing these potential mines, with plans to open gold producing mines at Lega Dembi, Tulu Kapi, and Tigray within five years. Additional gold mines are planned to be opened within eight years. Further plans are made to begin mining other minerals as well. To coordinate these efforts the Emperor forms the Imperial Ministry of Mines, staffed primarily by technocrats from Arabian Standard Oil. The exploratory missions also find another surprising development, the presence of oil in Ethiopia’s southern province of the Ogaden. A geological survey of the Ogaden reveals that there are billions, if not trillions, of cubic feet of crude oil in the Ogaden. The Ethiopian government soon begins negotiations to develop this source of oil and accepts an offer from the Federation of South America to jointly develop the oil fields. The Emperor grants an Imperial Charter to the Federation to form a joint Ethiopian and South American oil company to develop and drill the area. Known as the Abyssinian-South American Petroleum Corporation (ASAPCO), the company begins developing the oil fields, with plans to begin exporting oil in five years. With funds provided by the US consortium, the Ethiopian government begins reclaiming farm lands in the lowland regions. Previously thought to be impossible to farm, the combination of malaria eradication and immunization programs begins to attract many to the lowland areas. The government begins using the new funds to dig irrigation canals and provide supplies to local farmers. The reclaimed land, mainly pastoral grazing land of the Oromo and Afar, displaces a number of their communities, as highland peasants arrive to claim and farm the newly reclaimed land. Rather than compensating the Oromo and Afar for the confiscated land, the government begins a program to relocate them to developing mining and oil areas to provide labor for those industries. To coordinate the land reclamation efforts the Emperor creates the Imperial Ministry of Agriculture. Hearing of the protest of veterans in the United States and the racial tensions between African-Americans and white citizens, the Emperor Haile Selassie makes a public invitation to African-American veterans to move to Ethiopia, promising them a plot of land, work, a regular income, and life without Jim Crow. The Emperor hopes veterans moving to Ethiopia will bring militarily trained and experienced soldiers to the nation.
    • US Dip: African-American and especially Afro-american WW2 veteran immigration is encouraged to the Empire of Ethiopia with grants by US financial institutions.
  • United States of America: Countless debates take place on the Congress, with Pres. Dewey forced to veto several voted radical acts regarding segregation made by the more progressive elements within his party, along with their Democratic counterparts, which undoubtedly aggravates them, leading them to distance themselves from the President, viewing him with nothing more than contempt if not outright hostility for his abhorrent alliance with the Dixiecrats. There are also talks of taking even more drastic measures other than filibustering acts pushed by the oval office other than downvoting them with the opposition, as friendlier relations seem to have formed with the Democrats, rumors emerge of talks taking place between them and the Democrats for officially joining their party, although these amount to little, as the vast majority of them expect that after Dewey's first term they'd be over with the Dixiecrats for good. The Dixiecrats continue to polarize their base of support, especially around the South, their electoral success has been followed up by actions and this leads to racial relations slowly but surely starting to deteriorate. Vice President Strom Thurmond staunchly proclaims that "There would be no compromise on racial issues, not now nor ever, just as there would be no compromise on sending our children abroad to die on some reef or one some horrid foreign pointless war" following up on his successful electoral promises, that were seen very positively by the public. A lot of hate is also directed to the Latino community inside the USA, with many people viewing them as agents of the enemy. President Dewey is alarmed at the steadily increasing tide of hostility against the Latino community and he is persuaded by some of his advisors to relocate the location of the ongoing continuation of the research on the Manhattan project away from New Mexico to Nevada and downsizing its scale as well as transferring all the archives to a safely isolated space inside DC along with other military secrets, to ensure the continuation of this research remaining a secret, even if these advises amount to nothing more than just distrust and suspicion is believed that this could be the best course of action, the fallout from losing such valuable secrets would worth a lot more than a relocation. A lot of resources are diverted toward creating infrastructure in the Mesoamerican state, while our private investment is heavily encouraged. In the US Native American reservations rumors spread of a majestic place in the south that could form their new homeland and limited immigration in the Mesoamerican state takes place. Government takes notice and starts to heavily encourage this, advertising this new paradise for native people in US reservations, while also subsidizing their immigration there. The aim is to displace the local Mexican population from the borderline region with the FSA, as no doubt they would work against us in case of war. Congressional deliberation on the issue of independence for the Nahuatl, Zapotec, Mixtec, Otomi, Totonac and other indigenous people of Mexico concludes that in order to ensure the viability of the newly liberated people, they must be combined in a single state, along with the Mayans, as separated they would be easy picking for the FSA. Thus all indigenous areas in Mexico south and east of Mexico city are united in a single state, incorporated in the previously established Mayan state. The new state's name is Mesoamerica. Elections take place in Mesoamerica. More drastic measures are taken against the Mexicans both by the US government and the indigenous people who have recently been granted self-administration, a series of Mesoamerican laws passed by the newly established, recently elected Mesoamerican parliament disenfranchising white latin and mestizo people inside the new Mesoamerican state. The US occupation forces do not make their life any easier, viewing them with intense hostility, due to their distance to the FSA's borders. An extra expeditionary force made up of 85.000 men is send to reinforce the previous expeditionary force and assist the rightful government of Greece in their struggle against the communist rebels. The entirety of US forces in Greece proceed to advance to Olympus Pass and dig in. President Dewey very much enjoys his visit in China, eager to address any issue and work together with his Chinese colleagues to rebuild the world in this post war era. Witnessing the Nanjing massacre monument he is completely abhorred by these actions of these war criminal individuals and expresses his condolences to the Chinese people for their grave losses of their loved ones. He discusses with President Chiang Kai-Shek of the need for mutual cooperation and possibly alignment against the Soviet threat looming in the North. He also discusses the possibility for further collaboration with the Republic of China and extends his offer of cooperation with actions such as granting them preferential trade partner status and encouraging limited US private investment in China, especially in the infrastructure and industrial sectors, especially in the coastal regions, seeking the friendship of the Chinese people as a counterweight to the Soviet threat. Lockheed Corporation on the behalf of US government is awarded a contract to jointly reproduce with the German state's assistance the Heinkel He 162 Volksjäger jet-powered fighter aircraft. Therefore the US government requests every kind of assistance from Western Germany could give Lockheed Corporation in attempting to produce once again the Heinkel He 162 Volksjäger single-engine, jet-powered fighter aircraft, this time with the materials that were originally intended for the aircraft instead of wood and whatever scraps they could find in its initial production during the later stages of WW2. Along with selling the patent of the Heinkel He 162 aircraft to Lockheed Corporation. [Mod Response]
  • Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: Under command of Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and with new funding from the Federation of South America, Arabian Standard Oil Company begins to thrive. Many new drills pop up along the Gulf Coast, and further infrastructure is built around the port city of Damman. With a steady source of funding and technical aid secured, Arabian Standard Oil Company exceeds expectations and now produces 1.04 million barrels of oil per day, with more growth expected. the Saudi fleet of oil tankers continues expansion, with the introduction of more oil tankers. In particular, the company takes advantage of its legal monopoly over the oil market in Ethiopia, establishing a constant route to the country. In order to continue expansion of his military, Ibn Saud requests the Federation of South America continue its supply of weapons and training to Saudi Arabia, and specifically requests the purchase of the new EF-5 fighter jet. In order to diversify, Ibn Saud also requests to purchase A substantial number of P-80s and FH Phantoms from the United States, as well as more general military aid. to support these more modern aircraft, a new base begins construction near Riyadh. The Saudi Royal Military now consists of 70,000 men, mostly equipped with weapons bought from South America. Secret Interested by the Arab nationalist movements in the Iraq, Ibn Saud begins sending Saudi liaisons to contact them, supplying them with weapons and financial support, and encouraging them to adopt Wahhabism. Ibn Saud hopes this will lead to a Saudi separatist movement within Iraq, but destroys all evidence implicating the royal family in the contact, should the liaisons be caught. End Secret.
    • US Dip: The US eagerly provides P-80s, FH Phantoms offering also the possibility to purchase used ones in excess for the US Air Force other than new, with a significant discount (40%). Also any other military aid as well as military advisors are offered to support the Saudi Arabian military.
  • Dominion of India: India gained independence on 26 January 1947 without the partition having taken place. The riots that occurred after the Declaration of Direct Action Day by the All India Muslim League on 16 August 1946 have mostly died down due to the major efforts of Mahatma Gandhi and the Police establishment. The Lahore Resolution of 1940 passed by the All India Muslim League (demanding a separate state for the Muslims) has significantly weakened especially after the death of their main leader Muhammad Ali Jinnah on 11 September 1948 (he was suffering from tuberculosis). After Jinnah's death, there also emerged a debate about his religious affiliation in the Muslim League (like OTL). With no strong leader to replace Jinnah, the efforts of the Muslim League have faltered. Seizing the opportunity, the senior Muslim leaders of the INC namely Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan and Mahatma Gandhi began an extensive campaign to promote Hindu-Muslim unity in 1948. The Constituent Assembly was formed in February 1947 consisting of the representatives of the various political parties and representatives of the princes of the princely states. The Constituent Assembly continues to meet in Delhi. With the death of Jinnah, subsiding communal tensions and no strong leader, the Muslim league accepted a compromise with a certain number of seats being reserved in the national and state legislatures for Muslim candidates (These seats are those with a Muslim majority demography). This measure is similar to seats being reserved in the legislature for the Scheduled Castes (Dalits) and Scheduled Tribes.
    • Meanwhile, Dr Khan Abdul Jabbar Khan, brother of INC leader Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, and political leader of the Khudai Khidmatgar movement continues to remain the Chief Minister of the North-West Frontier Province in alliance with the INC. The Khudai Khidmatgars and the All India Azad Muslim Conference (and its affiliate parties) start campaigning in Punjab and Bengal for a united secular India, directly countering the influence of the All India Muslim League. The Deoband school of Islamic thought in Deoband, India also opposed the partition plan and begins exerting its influence to prevent partition. The Unionist Party, a major political party in Punjab, also opposed to Partition begins a campaign opposing it. The AIML finally accepts the proposal of the reserved seats for Muslims and in line with the reservations for Dalits and Tribals, 7.5% of the seats in government jobs (like administration, police, etc.) and government institutes of higher education are reserved for members of the Muslim community. This leads to a certain amount of riots and an increase in communal tensions in some areas. However, this is much less than what occurred in 1946.
    • The Princely States are represented in the Constituent Assembly through the representatives of the princes. All the princes of the princely states were offered privy purses and full property rights over their personal property including palaces, temples and land that was directly owned by the princely families. Most of the princely states acceded to the Dominion of India accepting the offer of the government. The state of Baroda acceded in May 1949. The state of Gwalior also acceded subsequently. The other three big princely states have not yet accepted and delegations of the Constituent Assembly led by Sardar Patel and V.P. Menon are currently negotiating with the princes of these states, namely Hyderabad, Mysore and Jammu and Kashmir. Some of the princes had plans for independence but were pressured by the Government of India and their subjects to accede to the newly formed nation. The state of Travancore-Cochin has also not yet accepted integration even though it actively participates in the Constituent Assembly, negotiations are ongoing with the State of Travancore and Cochin as well.
    • India offers an alliance to the Union of Burma (MOD RESPONSE).
    • I'm not a mod but if you look at 1948.5 I think Burma accepted. (KQBJ)
  • Greece: Solidarity from the comrades in Moscow helps the DSE immensely, fresh men, material and even very experienced officers support the liberation fight in Greece. The 20,000 Red Army troops are used to keep the supply lines in the northwest open, which makes around 10,000 fighters free to be deployed at the front. Once again Zachariadis requests aid from the Bulgarians, now that even the Red Army is helping (MOD RESPONSE NEEDED). Mass agitation occurs behind enemy lines, in particular in Arcadia and also on the Aegean and Ionian islands. The KKE promises a land reform to the landless and small scale farmers, while property like houses. Despite the rivalry between General Markos and Nikolaos Zachariadis, the two do everything to win the war. With well coordinated raids of supply lines and police stations in Thrace and Macedonia, where the rural areas are mostly under DSE control due to the support of the poor rural population. SECRET NKVD members and Greek communist spies are sent into the Greek Army headquarters and they are ordered to steal as many plans and telegrams as possible and transmit them back to the DSE headquarters. The plan is set to be executed in 1950/1951 SECRET END Talks with the Greek Orthodox Church begin in summer, the KKE representatives promise to install a secular but not state-atheistic republic after victory, the Church may operate on their own, as long as they don't preach to overthrow the socialist order.  (MORE TO BE ADDED AFTER MOD RESPONSE)
  • French Departments in North Africa: Reconstruction continues, this time with focus on industrialization and modernization of major cities, with the military governor okaying the recruitment of both french and native workers. With Reconstruction well underway, Military Governor Chataigneau begins the reestablishment of the education system, with okaying the start of a colony wide education program aimed at both natives and French colonists and encouraging natives to go toward getting a higher education. Independence begin to organize themselves in both Algeria and Tunisia, with the Algerian Communist Party being the most significant one. The PCA makes contact to the Tunisian Communist Party and the 2 parties begin communicating on a regular basis. The previous anti-Semitic laws imposed by the Vichy colonial regime are reversed and all Jews in Algeria and Tunisia are given back their French citizenship if they so choose.

1949.5

In the move from Los Alamos it becomes clear that it has come to light that evidence of serious leaks to both the FSA and the Soviets have become clear, those in charge of the Manhattan project inform the President both nations could have the weapons within a year. However, more information regarding the leaking of Bomb plans to the Soviets as early as 1945 puts the Soviet bomb test somewhere between August and October of this Year. President Truman is noticeably absent for nearly three days after hearing the news.

Bulgarian troops numbering 50,000 march into Greece in support of the communists. Now in an even bigger twist, the Orthodox church splits as well nearly 50/50 between supporting the king and supporting the communists. The Arrival of both Soviet and American troops spins the situation further out of control as it looks as if Soviet and American troops could legitimately face eachother on the field.

The Greek crisis takes up headlines and diplomats on both sides secure upper level government support on preventing the escalation of the conflict into all out war.

The British agree to fall back to the Suez Canal zone and recognize Egyptian independence. On top of this the Saudi diplomatic overtures are accepted in part. Abu Dabi and Qatar are given over to the Saudi regime. However, Yemen will be turned over to a Yemeni civilian administration.

Stalin is embarassed in private as he receives a letter from Yugoslav leader Tito. "Stop sending people to kill me! We've already captured five of them, one of them with a bomb and another with a rifle... If you don't stop sending killers, I'll send a very fast working one to Moscow and I certainly won't have to send another."

The Post war economic boom begins to affect most of the surviving major countries of WW2. The US, FSA, USSR, British, and French all see notable growth in their economies. This is seemingly attributed to a large pool of labor, a wave of well educated veterans entering the work force, and mass demilitarization off all affiliated powers. This growth subsequently begins to spread to the rest of the world slowly but surely with the "Big 3" the US, FSA, and Soviets being some of the primary drivers of global economic growth.

Spain sees its own economic miracle after an influx of foreign money and the opening up of Spanish industry to further expansion and development.

  • FSA: (Last name, I promise): The FSA in these last six months has seen its protests and demonstrations finally dwindle. The streets and affected property are all accessed and given government assistance with repair and reconstruction. This hopefully stands as a good public image for the rest of the country. With demonstrations finally ending and the growth of the economy starting to pick up, it becomes clear that the influx of work and good pay after the Great Depression, and a long global war having played out is truly what many of these people were seeking. A return to normalcy after nearly 20 years of mass social and political upheaval. Noticing this the government begins using its marketing and rather fledgling film industry to produce a series of free films, commercials, even printed in newspapers. A short tidbit of the success of a local man taking part. A film showcasing a new invention, billboards promoting extremely cheap ways to get into higher education. It begins a small stream of national thought that once again society was progressing. As the economy has picked up so has global oil need. The redevelopment of so many assets back to a civilian economy requires a major driving factor oil. The FSA markets its oil, selling on the open market and thanks to the size of the oil fields, in South America its promised cheap. Government investment and private investment flood into the oil industry with intent to retool, rebuild and reorient the FSA oil field and infrastructure. Having become relatively well developed during the war, in the final months they became targets of American long range bombers. Their redevelopment seeks to bring a new source of capital as well as use this as a success story of the new government hoping to once again strengthen legitimacy. The push of government led investment into Ethiopia is put forward as well with the developments of the Ethiopian fields hoping to deliver on their promise within a short time frame. It is expected to take roughly a year an a half to get the first oil pumps ready for exploitation. The military continues to develop its key projects specifically in a jet-engine strategic bomber with this to be completed around 1952. The new center of government having been looking for a new site to build a capital looks to find a new site. Manaus, Brazil after deliberation by a special council of the Federal Senate investigates the area. It is found to be suitable for a large city and effectively open up the Amazon to further investment and development by the government. The city architect is chosen and Manaus is expected to see the new developments occur. The San Salvacion free zone is established giving tax breaks, incentives, and other preferable options for building or trading here. The city standing currently at only about 250,000 is expected to get a huge shift. The New and Old city are established districts of the city and large areas begin to be developed and cleared with the government quarters of the city going up first. The Re-assessment of the navy is completed and the ports of Santos, Cartagena, Buenaventura, and San Antonia are choices as military ports with intent to centralize all military shipbuilding within these ports. Incentives are given, and new areas cleared as the preparation for these cities to begin receiving shipbuilding contractors. Already the major shipbuilding of Aquaria de La Plata declares its intent to move major shipbuilding operations to the areas with intent to declare its headquarters in one of them. The rebuilding of the north continues with the population relatively quiet as the progression seems to satisfy many. The opening of the Panama Canal what seems just a short time ago, seems to open up South America in yet a new light to many passing through. Another powerful democracy, independent of the old order in Europe and the Americas. With the potential of India, and the unification of China, the FSA openly favored the rising of what it calls "Traditional great powers." The FSA offers to enter into proper negotiations with the Republic of China over trade and investment hoping to foster good relations between the FSA and China. South American diplomats are quick to say "we are the only major power to have treated you as Equals." (China Response)
    • Chinese response: We accept the trade proposals.
  • Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: Under the command of Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and with funding from the Federation of South America continuing, Arabian Standard Oil Company continues to thrive. Many new drills pop up along the Gulf Coast, and further infrastructure is built around the port city of Damman. With a steady source of funding and technical aid secured, Arabian Standard Oil Company exceeds expectations and now produces 1.14 million barrels of oil per day, with more growth expected. The company takes advantage of its legal monopoly over the oil market in Ethiopia, establishing a constant route to the country. After securing exclusive rights to develop Afghanistan oil reserves, Arabian Standard Oil Company begins drilling in the north of the country. With a relative dearth of clients, most of the oil is sold to clients in the Soviet Union. Expansion of the Saudi tanker fleet continues, with several large tankers entering service this year. Military expansion also continues. The planned air base outside of Riyadh continues construction, with enough of it complete to run training missions in recently acquired American p-80s and FH phantoms and Federation EF-5s. However, most of the Saudi Air Force is still based at less modern but fully functional bases spread across the country. In order to make the Air force more effective, Ibn Saud orders Saudi Defense contractors to begin developing external fuel tanks to expand the range of the Saudi fleet, especially the bombers. The number of soldiers in the Saudi Royal military stays steady at roughly 80,000, but further purchase of weapons means it is now by far the most modern force in the Middle East. Wanting to expand power projection to the sea, Ibn Saud begins work on developing a base in Damman for the Kingdom's limited navy, and requests to buy ships any major power that fought in World War Two no longer needs. In order to expand his soft power across the Middle East, Ibn Saud begins attempts to spread Salafi Islam to Saudi Arabia's neighbors. This takes the form of funding local mosques and universities, as well as trying to win the favor of various royal families. In particular, Ibn Saud offers a Saudi security guarantee To Kuwait, Yemen, Oman, and Bahrain if their royal families and upper classes begin accepting Salafi Islam. (MOD RESPONSE) More quietly, Ibn Saud SECRETLY continues his support of Arab nationalist movements in Iraq. In particular, weapons and money are provided via liaisons to any group seen as sufficiently supporting of Saudi Arabia or willing to adopt and support Salafi Islam. Liaisons also begin to encourage the more extreme groups to begin attacks against Iraqi military and oil targets. Ibn Saud continues to practice of destroying all evidence implicating the royal family in this scheme. END SECRET.
    • Emirate of Abu Dubai: After acquiring this territory from the British as a client state, Ibn Saud appoints his son Nasser bin Abdulaziz Al Saud as the Emir of Abu Dubai. The new Emir immediately transfers the rights to any oil in the nation to Arabian Standard Oil Company, which in turn begins to search the peninsula for oil. Ibn Saud's efforts to spread Salafi Islam are particularly strong in Abu Dubai, as they are aggressively supported by a ruling class that has largely fallen in line. The limited armed forces of Abu Dubai are modernized folded into the newly created Arabian Defense Force, Which will consist of the combined militaries of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Abu Dubai, and commanded from Riyadh.
    • Emirate of Qatar: After acquiring this territory from the British as a client state, Ibn Saud appoints his son Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud as the Emir of Qatar. The new Emir immediately transfers the rights to any oil in the nation to Arabian Standard Oil Company, which in turn begins to search the peninsula for oil. Ibn Saud's efforts to spread Salafi Islam are particularly strong in Qatar, as they are aggressively supported by a ruling class that has largely fallen in line. The limited armed forces of Qatar are modernized folded into the newly created Arabian Defense Force, Which will consist of the combined militaries of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Abu Dubai, and commanded from Riyadh. A joint Qatari-Saudi Airbase begins construction in Doha, with most of the forces being provided by Riyadh.
    • Mod Response: Oman refuses deciding to play a nuetral party in the region. Yemen in the middle of its own civilian government handover counter proposes with a defensive military agreement rather than one way security agreement and forcing religious doctrine change. Kuwait and Bahrain refuge still being British protectorates.
  • Empire of Ethiopia: Under Imperial Minister of War George S. Patton, the Imperial Army continues its program of recruitment, drilling and training. The 12,000 Imperial Guard continue training with the newly imported American military equipment while Patton’s emphasis on mobility leads to the Imperial Army developing a doctrine of mobility and quick, decisive strikes against the enemy. 18,000 new recruits are added to the Imperial Army, with 7,000 more to be recruited by the end of the year. Additionally, Patton restructures the Imperial Air Force, appointing many US officers to begin retraining the cadets and rewriting its course curriculum to more closely resemble a Western military institution. Patton also restructures and rewrites the Imperial Military Academy. The Ethiopian mining sector continues to develop, with six more gold mines planning to be opened within five years and nine more within eight years. The Ethiopian government also begins planning to develop iron and coal mines to stimulate and support industrialization in Ethiopia. The Ethiopian government also begins planning the construction of numerous industrial and business parks throughout the nation, primarily focusing on Addis Ababa, the country’s capital. The Emperor issues a formal pardon to all Italian civilians in Ethiopia, and vows to guarantee the safety of their persons and property. The government also makes an effort to hire as many Italian doctors, lawyers, educators, and skilled craftsmen as possible to help modernize the nation. Federation funds and oil workers flow into the Ogaden, where they begin planning and developing dozens of oil wells in the area. The local population, the Somali, begin to be hired extensively by the project, providing employment and stable pay for the previously impoverished people. The economic boom in the US is felt in Ethiopia, as US agricultural companies begin to establish commercial farms on the agreed 35% of reclaimed farmland. Taxes off this new highly lucrative economic base forms a new source of revenue for the Ethiopian government and a source of employment for the locals, although some peasants dislike farmland that could be awarded to Ethiopian families being given to American corporations. The first African-Americans begin arriving in Ethiopia, mainly veterans from the war who, tired of being treated like second-class citizens by the nation they fought for, decided to move to Ethiopia. The Emperor reserves a portion of land to be developed as farmlands for these new immigrants, and hopes to use their Western upbringing to help modernize his nation. The Emperor declares May 5, the day he reentered Addis Ababa, “Restoration Day”, a national holiday meant to celebrate the restoration of native rule to Ethiopia. Haile Selassie makes a formal request to the British Empire requesting that they withdraw from Eritrea and acknowledge Ethiopian sovereignty over it (MOD RESPONSE NEEDED). Haile Selassie points out that Eritrea was originally Ethiopian territory and was only forcefully “purchased” by Italians after they had already occupied it. The Emperor states Italy’s withdrawal from the area should mean the territory be transferred back to Ethiopia.
    • US Response: We exert pressure on the British government to accept the Ethiopian offer, offering some minor concessions regarding trade in return.
    • Mod UK: The British refuse the transfer.

The Hashemite Kingdom of Iraq: The Iraqi Communist parties within Iraq begin to gain grassroot support within Baghdad with a new party being formed within Iraq named the "People's Party of Iraq" which is used as an umbrella term for the legal parties left within Iraq.Arab Nationalist and Baathist within Iraq create a cell named the Free Officer Movement which gain the support of many young... officers. the Iraq Gas and Petroleum Company begins to drill for oil Kirkuk and Al Dawah. We send an envoy to Britain and the Kuwaiti government asking for a union with Kuwait by 1951.5, where Kuwait would be brought into Iraq, with the Kingdom of Iraq ruling over foreign affairs while the Kuwaiti government would maintain internal affairs and maintain autonomy. (Secret) We send an envoy to Jordan asking for the creation of the Arab Federation, where the last two Hashemite monarchies would form a union to counter any anti-Hashemite waves within the Middle East, mostly to counter the growing Saudi influence in the Arabian region, reminding them of what happen to the Kingdom of Hejaz (Mod response). We send an envoy to Britain asking for the purchase of 90,000 new rifles,300 British spitfires, 500 Crusader tanks and new military equipment mostly consisting of trucks and radios. (Mod Response). Iraq forms a standing army consisting of 50,000 men with plans of expanding it as the years go on. An envoy is sent to the USSR asking for help on the development of Iraqi infrastructure starting off in the Al Anbar region.

  • Occupied Japan: The First elections take place this year and many parties are formed the Democratic party, the liberal democratic party as well as a Socialist party, a communist party and the Japanese Federal Democratic party. The election took place with an eighty-four percent participation based upon the census done roughly two months before. The number of seats were based upon proportional representation with a grand total of 465 plus the Prime Minister who would be appointed by the Diet. The election went extremely well and was very exciting for the nation as a whole. The Japanese Federal Democratic party got near the majority with 221 seats. The Liberal Democratic party got the second most with 113 seats. The Socialists got the third most with 63. The Democratic party got the fourth most with 48. The communists got the least with 20. The Prime Minister was appointed to be Nakashima Masahide a Federal Democrat who is avid about putting Japan back on the map and make them known throughout the world as a symbol of culture, technology, government. In order to do this his first bill he sends to the Diet is about the exploitation of the natural resources of Japan such as Timber, steel and fish. This bill passes as it is seen as an opportunity to reinvigorate the Japanese economy. The first Animated feature length film nicknamed Otoko no ko (The Boy) is released in theatres this year by Isao Takahata it becomes an element of the culture and many of the Japanese people go and enjoy it as an opportunity to get away from the struggles of their lives. The Prime Minister appoints all of his cabinet members and all of them are quickly confirmed except for one, Yashiro Taro, he was tried but not convicted of illegal business. Following some deeper investigation the Diet decides to let him be Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. Secret: A discussion between the Yakuza clans occurs in which the clans discuss how best to take advantage of this time of turmoil, during these discussions the biggest clan Yamaguchi-Gumi receives an invitation to a secret meeting with Yashiro Taro. Knowing this to be an extremely good opportunity the Yakuza go ahead and meet with Mr. Toro, during this meeting Mr. Toro explains that the current state of the world proposes an interesting opportunity for the Yakuza to make a name for themselves on the world stage and put Japan back into the top dog spot. This opportunity would lie in going after the various oppositions to Japan and that Mr. Toro would pay the Yakuza and they would benefit from this should they choose to accept. Looking to get a leg ahead on their other clan rivals the Yamaguchi accept the offer but state that should Mr. Toro work with any other Yakuza clan that the deal is off and Yamaguchi-Gumi will ruin Mr. Toro and his children and their children. The Yamaguchi-Gumi begin to look internationally with some interest in the US, FSA and other major Pacific powers whom the Yamaguchi could benefit from inflitrating. End Secret. The steel manufacturing of Japan becomes a major focus as we look to find ways for the government to make money post war. The automotive industry is another major focus as we go post war. Nissan, Toyota, Hino and Isuzu share the market and their cars begin to be shipped globally. Japanese automobiles lack some of the ability to mass produce that other manufacturers of the time due to the destruction of Japanese industry. However, some gains are made and Toyota and Nissan specifically look for opportunities to expand there production capabilities. As this occurs the steel industry also begins to prosper due to the demand from Toyota and Nissan for more steel to make there cars and other more specific technology industries also benefit. A request is made to the US by the Cabinet for a timeline on the occupation. (American response needed.) The Japanese government sends ambassadors to China, Indonesia, Burma, the Philippines and India about setting up an economic alliance throughout Asia in order to help all nations of Asia recover from the struggles of the war. (Responses Needed) The alliance will have a standard currency called the Okane, all member nations will be expected to slowly transition from there local currency to the Okane for international deals. The Japanese government also wishes to begin to create an inter-asian banking system for governments to take loans out of the Japanese propose to have a headquarters for this bank in each of the member nations capitals. The Okane value will be regulated by the Asian Continental bank as this bank will be called and the Asian Continental Commission.

We encourage industry to grow between Nanjing and Shanghai on the Yangtze, and President Chang Kai-shek makes a visit to the United States. We offer an alliance between us and Burma (MOD Response). Seeing the puppet governments in former Indochina and the blatant occupation of Kampuchea, we once again demand that France decolonize this area of Asia immediately, and not continue to occupy it under the veil of a puppet government. (France response). Troops remain stationed on the border with the Soviet Union and with the French puppets in Indochina. We also look for partners in our attempts to industrialize the country, accepting investment from outside.

The National Mining Corporation develops more mines in the country with some of the new funding, expanding its operations to increase the amount of minerals being extracted and sold for export. King Zahir Shah believes this will be Afghanistan's main source of revenue in the coming decades. A Royal Constitutional Committee is established to study law, government, and the history of other Westernizing states to come up with the best possible constitution for the kingdom. Education is also given more funding as more schools are to be opened throughout the country, focusing on secondary schools in each province. Classes are underway at the new University of Kabul. Once the Athens revolt breaks out the 5,000 troops in the Olympus pass are sent back to Athens to round up all able-bodied men involved in any way shape or form with demonstrations by force if necessary. They will be released once the situation is stabilised. They are shipped back to Spain where they will find rehabilitation in labour and be supervised by the newly hired civil guard. The post war boom continues to grow as tens of thousands enroll in high education programs run by respective governments in France, the UK, US, FSA, and even to some degree in the USSR. The expansions of infrastructure, housing and development of "Suburbia" in both the FSA and USA contribute heavily to a baby boom which takes off as many demobilized men start families.

  • French Departments in Africa: Reconstruction ends this year with the major cities and smaller towns and villages fully or mostly repaired, though industrialization and modernization of major cities continues. With reconstruction ending and the region mostly stabilized, Yves Chataigneau steps down as Military Governor and civilian government is restored. Elections take place and a new Governor General is elected: Jacques Soustelle, a firm supporter for Algeria and Tunisia integrating into France as core parts of France. The election becomes controversial as Algerians were barred from voting and were not able to elect a Governor-General which leads to massive protests by Algerian Arabs and Amazigh Natives. The Algerian Communist Party takes this opportunity to expand its influence and becomes the leading group in the protests. The PCA begins to promote labor unions and equal working rights for the natives of Algeria (Arabs, Amazigh). The Tunisian Communist Party also begins to organize protests and begins to insert itself into the labor movement.
  • Japan: A small part of the Japanese people, specifically the younger generation many of whom don't fully grasp why the invasion occurred begin to make a fuss about the american prescence in Japan resulting in larger anti-western mentalities. This anti-western mentality causes more interest in the Yakuza by the younger Japanese population which in turn increases Yakuza membership. The Japanese car industry and steel output increase as Toyota and Nissan continue to expand. Toyota has been expanding much faster than any of there counterparts so there is potential buyout opportunity for Toyota of any of the Non-Nissan car companies in Japan. The government also continues to work on creating the Asian Economic Alliance with the first Asian Continental Bank being founded in Tokyo. This bank begins to look for opportunities throughout Asia. (Asian countries Interested please respond) All the cities begin to be fully reconstructed as many people move back to the cities following there time in the rural areas to attempt to avoid the war. The main cities which were affected by the war were, Kyoto, Osaka, Tokyo and Nagasaki. Osaka and Kyoto suffered the most losses of civilians which causes the Yakuza to have the most influence in these two cities. Tokyo begins to become a major urban industrial powerhouse as many of the major companies such as Mitsubishi Toyota and major textile and steel companies begin to build there headquarters in Tokyo. The Japanese government passes multiple reforms which encourage woman to work in the labor industry alongside men. The labor reforms continue as the Textile, steel, and oil industries become major focus. As many women move into the work force women's rights becomes a topic of discussion, therefore the prime minister proposes a bill in which women would gain the right to vote and equal working conditions and pay, the bill has to go through the diet twice before it is passed.
    • Afghan Diplomacy: Afghanistan is interested in joining the Alliance.
    • Japanese Diplomacy: We happily accept Afghanistan into the economic alliance.
    • Chinese response: We support the Japanese idea
In order to expand his soft power across the Middle East, Ibn Saud continues efforts to spread Salafi Islam across the Middle East. The King makes a move to become the intellectual hub of the Middle East with the foundation of University of Riyadh. Predominate Scholars from around the Saudi Arabia and the Middle East alike are invited to come to the university, with several prominent Saudi Scholars using the platform to promote Salafi Islam in the academic world. In addition, Salafi mosques are founded and funded across Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Middle East. More quietly, Ibn Saud SECRETLY continues his support of Arab nationalist movements in Iraq. END SECRET.
    • Emirate of Abu Dhabi: After acquiring this territory from the British as a client state, Ibn Saud appoints his son Nasser bin Abdulaziz Al Saud as the Emir of Abu Dubai.
  • Soviet Union: After years of researching and developing a nuclear weapon and with help from information gained through espionage the Soviet military detonates its first nuclear bomb the RDS-1 (hydrogen bomb). State funding into the sciences is increased particularly in the areas of physics, enigeering, and chemistry. Reconstruction in the western parts of the country continue, with major improvements in infrastructure being a focus, aid to Soviet allies in eastern Europe is also contemplated to shore up support for the Soviet back regimes. Production of the Ak 47 is ramped up as it is made the main small arms of the Red Army. research and development into tanks, troop transports, and planes begins applying new technologies. The MiG-15 is introduced in larger numbers, with limited amounts of the fighters being employed to support the Greek communists. Older Soviet guns and tanks are also sent to them. The industrialization of Siberia continues - particularly along the Trans-Siberian Railway. Stalin's paranoia and anger become an increasingly large issue. More people are rounded up and sent to the east. Many of Stalin's inner circle including Beria the leader of the state security apparatus become increasingly apprehensive as even long term loyalists are rounded up in the ongoing crackdown on dissidents. Stalin enraged at the continued autonomy of Tito's Yugoslavia sends more agents to murder Tito. more to be added later....
  • Empire of Ethiopia: Upon hearing of the British refusal to return Eritrea, Haile Selassie makes a trip to the UN headquarters in New York City. There in a televised address to the world the Emperor denounces Britain’s refusal to release Eritrea back to its native inhabitants. Specifically, the Emperor points out that Britain has openly defied the wishes of the US in refusing to withdraw from Eritrea. He also points out the irony in Britain prosecuting German war criminals for unlawfully seizing territory even as Britain continues to do the same in Africa. Development of Ethiopia’s oil fields continue, with Federation planners predicting the first oil wells will be producing regularly in one year. The extensive infrastructure network built by the Federation in the Ogaden, such as roads, power lines, and sewer systems, meant to help the construction of oil wells, also greatly benefits the local Somali populace, raising the general prosperity in a previously impoverished area and quelling any discontent amongst the populace. Ethiopia’s mining industry also continues to steadily grow, with Saudi engineers moving on to establish gemstone and copper mines. Development of the gold mines continue, with the Imperial Ministry of Mines reporting to the Emperor that the first gold mines should start producing in two years. 10,000 new recruits are added to the Imperial Army, exceeding expectations and making the total number of troops in the army at 40,000 troops. Imperial Minister of War Patton hand picks the best 20,000 troops and reforms them as the new Imperial Guard, consisting of three infantry battalions of 5,000 men and one mechanized battalion of 5,000 men, consisting of 3,000 motorized infantry and 2,000 men supporting 100 M26 Pershing tanks. Patton begins working on next year’s recruitment, aiming to recruit another 20,000 soldiers. Continuous drilling and training of the Imperial Armed Forces continues. The addition of US trained African-American veterans greatly aids the speed of training, as with more drill officers the Empire is able to train larger numbers of soldiers faster. With the economy and military rapidly modernizing, Haile Selassie embarks on a program to similarly modernize Ethiopian society. To that extent, the Emperor establishes the Imperial University of Addis Ababa, staffed primarily by Italian educators and African-American intellectuals who have immigrated from the US SECRET The Emperor, without informing his US advisors and making sure to travel in utter secrecy, makes a trip to the border town of Moyale. There the Emperor meets with Kenyan nationalist Jomo Kenyatta, as well as other leaders such as Dedan Kimathi and Stanley Mathenge, to discuss Ethiopian military and economic support for the Kenyan nationalist movement. • Japanese Dip: We offer that the republic of the Philippines join the Asian Economic Alliance.
  • Afghanistan: With help from Saudi funding and expanding industries, the mining operations in Afghanistan increase their output, in turn increasing government revenue. Iron ore, lead, zinc, copper, gold, coal, precious gem stones are all sold on the international market. King Zahir Shah and his financial advisors are very careful to maintain a balanced budget and not go into debt, spending money carefully. Education, military, and industry are given the priority in funding. With the University of Kabul and a local high school opened, the next stage is to build secondary schools in every province, which is ongoing. A railway line that would connect Kabul with Herat, Kunduz, Farah, and Kandahar among other towns is given funds to start construction next year with the help of foreign experts. The Royal Afghan Army is trained and organised in European style, with Western equipment. A sense of national unity and Afghan nationalism will be instilled in the troops to overcome tribal divides. Afghanistan is interested in joining the Japanese-led Asian Economic Alliance.
  • Spanish State: Franco continues to maintain an iron fist over Spain. We request America lend us $500 million to pay for the civil guard. The military has remained small and underfunded currently. 20,000 soldiers deployed in Spanish Morocco, 20,000 in Spanish Guinea and another 10,000 in the Western Sahara with 85,000 in Spain and 15,000 in Greece. The military continues to conduct rear area security in Greece with areas of guerrilla activity suffering from houses being burnt and suspects being deported to labour camps in Spain.
    • Economy: We continue the construction of roads, railways and prefabricated housing in new towns. The new taxation system has taken effect and is operating acceptably while plans for a minimum wage for rural workers are introduced albeit with a low minimum wage and migration to the cities begins as day labourers become more expensive and increased mechanisation slowly.
    • Education: The focus on reading is maintained with a national programme solely using phonics for all schools at age four and taking three years with tests conducted every year.
  • FSA: The continued development of the new Capital of San Salvacion sees a wide array of planned streets, avenues, urban and commercial development and most importantly the cities government quarter which sees the Federations White House, its immense Federal Senate chambers known as Federal Hall taken from plans of the German Volkshalle proposed by the 3rd Reich as well as various other important buildings. On top of this an obelisk of immense size is slated to be built and occupy the cities central circle around the government quarter. The Economy continues to boom as various infrastructural projects continue to be built. The Oil industry on its own sees its own boom as FSA oil takes a commanding lead in global markets overshadowing almost all its competitors on the open market due to sheer reserves. In Peru the development of the gold mining operations is expanded to push the FSA one of the top three producers of gold. The rebuilding of the north continues as well with major progress made in modernizing and rebuilding the vast majority of the Northern regions affected by the war. As the Army finally finds its place in the post war nation, the FSA begins redployment to its sattelite states to the north. With 80,000 troops arriving in Hispaniola, and another 50,000 in Guatemala. Investment into these sattelite states increases as well with the FSA even engendering another Federal state underneath it. The Revival of the United States of Central America opting to give equal shares of power and prevent the more populous Guatemala from dominating the union. The influence is heavy into the central American nations with hopes to foster the Federal movement into a proper nation by 1960-62. The Development of the FSA nuclear program continues in earnest with the first nuclear reactors being build in Southern Brazil and Uranium mining picking up. In order to remain on par with the United States economically and industrially speaking, restrictions of industrial development and private investment are lifted in favor of fostering an extremely friendly environment for the development of a massive consumer, and home goods industry. The Rising of a commodities boom for developing countries such as China, Federation Satellites, India, Ethiopia, European States, and Saudi Arabia further feeds the upward growth of the Economy. The Population standing at roughly 117 million begins to enter a massive boom period as more and more well educated enter the work force and with the vast affordability of housing. In order to tackle rising rent costs in major cities National Zoning laws are put into place making the housing market cheap and affordable rather than a long term investment of wealth for a family unit. A proper savings account is insteand promoted for every South American family and is promoted heavily. This in turn sees the growth of financial institutions for the first time since the Great Depression to accomodate the influx of people hoping to secure loans and bank accounts. The Navy begins research into more modern ships and a secret project involving cruise missiles is minted in order to mount on warships and possibly bombers for much longer range and accurate bombardment capability. The FSA requests that the powers that be in Greece attempt to negotiate rather than drive the world into global war once again.
  • Republic of China: We continue rebuilding  our country, as it was destroyed by the war. We hold elections in the Northern occupation zone of Korea, and democratic forces have won it. All war criminals condemned by the war tribunal in Nanjing are publicly executed for their crimes. The Yangtze river valley continues to be rebuilt. We encourage industry to grow between Nanjing and Shanghai on the Yangtze, and President Chang Kai-shek makes a visit to Japan to forgive the Emperor for his crimes.
    • Japanese response: The Japanese royal family accepts the welcomes the Chinese president with open arms grateful for his forgiveness. The Asian Intercontinental bank looks to open a branch in China to help encourage membership.

1950.5

Stalin having picked the final nerve of the Yugoslav leader Tito is killed quietly in an Assasination by a Yugoslav agent. This surprises the Politburo which is forced to scramble to deal with Stalins death, and cover up the fact a foreign agent assasinated the leader of the Soviet Union.

Yugoslavian forces numbering nearly 500,000 flood into Greece pushing most of the monarchist forces back to established perimeters mostly around concentrations of American troops. This is done in overt and deliberate support of the Greek communists. US Generals demand a counter-attack however the majority of congress leans towards limited conflict with the intent to Secure Greece, no more than that.

The Federal Senate blocks various forms of legislation holding the legislative branch hostage demanding integration to UN and hence integration into the global community. Other more worker friendly reforms are also blocked taking a hard stance on communism, effectively stonewalling further civic reform plan by the Executive Branch.

50,000 British troops enter Kuwait to dispel any further notions of turning the territory or further british territories in the region over to either the Saudis or the Iraqis.

The French troops begin to combat the Viet Minh in earnest as Ho Chi Minh launches a guerilla war for the liberation of Vietnam and by extention French Indo-China

The US economy takes a commanding lead as the global leader with the Dollar being considered the most stable reserve currency and New York maintaining its status as the World Financial center over London, and Buenos Aires.

Saudi funding into sumpathetic groups in Iraq bears some fruit as some local militias form in support of Salafi Islam the Saudi brand of Islam.

  • Japan: The Japanese continue to repair the industry, we are starting to be able to completely revamp our industry and become self sufficient once again however there are still many things required before we can be completely self sufficient as such the Japanese government continues to ask for American help. The Japanese also wish to expand the Asian Economical Alliance in order to help all Asian countries recover so offers are sent to current member states, Saudi Arabia (On discord) and Afghanistan, as well as China and India to open up Asian intercontinental banks in those countries. (Saudi, Afghan, Chinese and Indian responses needed). The Yakuza continue to expand there influence and look to bring a number of government officials and electors into there influence. As many nations join the Asian Economic alliance the Japanese government continues to switch there currency to the Okane and encourages other nations do the same. As switching to the Okane causes some minor economical issues however the vast majority of people are excited for this new more powerful more universal currency and the opportunities it provides. The government draws a roughly 500 million USD loan from the Asian Economic bank in order to speed up the recovery process. The interest rate for this loan will be roughly 1.4 percent because of the struggling economy. The education of the youngest generation is considered a priority and due to the minimal destruction of schools this becomes a focus as the country has always been extremely well educated and the people continue to remain this way even after the war.
    • Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: Ibn Saud agrees to join the Asian Economic Alliance.
    • United Kingdom: Proposes opening a gateway to the west for the Asian Economic Alliance with another financial market created in Hong Kong, where western investors will be able to easily convert, buy, and trade bonds and stocks and make agreements.
      • Japanese Dip: The Japanese agree that a market in Hong Kong would be helpful however it mentions that the Asian Economical Alliance has no need for the Western governments.
    • Afghanistan: Afghanistan agrees to open a branch of the Asian Intercontinental Bank in the country.
    • Chinese response: we agree
  • Soviet Union: On the 17th of August Stalin is found with a ice pick in his skull, this provokes a massive shock amongst the members of the Politiburo who  He and the Stalinists use Beria to kill all the members of Stalin's home to prevent any possible leaks, and publicly  attributeComrade Stalin's death  to declining heath. Gaining the support of Foreign Secretary Molotov, and Kliment Vorosshilov Malenkov tries to push for retaliation against Tito by any means necesary and to cut off support for Greece, while Kruschev disagrees privately, however the Politiburo and military high command stuck trying to figure out all the other issues connected to the continued Soviet Presencei n Eastern europe, the escalation of the conflict in greece with the Yugoslav intervention now publicly  placing both the Soviets and the Yugoslavians supporting the same side. The split in the Politiburo intensifies after Beria manages to secure control over the entirety of the State security apparatus, bringing even more confusion and fear amongst the other politiburo members. Beria who had been steadily laying down the gronud works for an eventual take over of power and pass sweeping reforms to prevent falling victim to the same sort of fate he had sent count other lives to. Kruschev as leader of the reformist part of the Communist Party quickly reaches out to his old friend Marshal Zhukov who recently returned from East Germany and being the one known man to publicly oppose Stalin looking to establish a political alliance and ultimately an initial agreement is laid out to secure power and prevent a complete collpase of revolution and all the hard won gains during the after math of the war. No actionm is taken however by either side as the funeral of Comrade Stalin is held, and because of the uncertainty of what Beria would do. In secret Beria begins laying organizing  his own possible move forward. Reconstruction efforts continue and despite the massive Yugoslav intervention the Military stipulats the importance of secrung the country for the communist bloc due to the massive investment that has already gone into secyuring the country, and to prevent a complete collapse of the soviet government or military. more to be added later.
  • United Kingdom: Clement Attlee and the labor party continue to expand the National Health Service to include dental care/services and glasses, including advanced services for veterans. With the economic boom in hand, resources are pushed into the financial services and markets in London, Hong Kong, and military services and aid to locals in the Middle East and in South East Asia. Specific protections are made in Malay and specifically Singapore including the beginnings of outfitting new ships (Mod - Not sure how big this is since there is not Chinese support like OTL). The United Kingdom applauds the Federation of Rhodesia as they take into account the nearby nations, but Attlee is publicly critical over the new laws of the union of South Africa's apartheid-like laws. More money is brought in from the deals with Saudi Arabia. For Egypt the United Kingdom invites them into the commonwealth of nations. Given the current situation in the USSR and Eastern Europe the UK implores Europe and the Federation and the United States to create a discourse and plan to deal with the wars in the Balkan area.
    • Clement Attlee proposes a European Steel, Coal, and Energy Commission to West Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Sweden. (RESPONSES). The purpose being to integrate the economies of the Ruhr, the Rhine, and the Financial markets and major cities that serve them in order to intertwine, link, and create a bond of economies to prevent future conflicts.
    • Clement Attlee also hosts the Commonwealth of Nations (Australia, New Zealand, Canada, India, East Pakistan, Pakistan, and Ceylon) to discuss the situation in South Africa (purposely not invited due to violating the human rights portion of the charter) to see how they can create trade agreements among the member nations (Assuming all attend unless otherwise said).
  • Afghanistan: With Saudi financing and possibly more to come from the Asian Intercontinental Bank, the government expands its mining operations and invests more into education. More schools are opened in the provinces. Extraction of raw materials increases. Kabul University is expanded and offers more programs. The Royal Afghan Army has about 40,000 troops, organised into four divisions, and is getting trained in European style.
  • Dutch East Indies: Protests for independence grow, asking for full independence from the Dutch empire. Many movement saw widespread strikes as natives working for Dutch assets enter into an endless strike, this cause a series of clashes between colonial authority and the Indonesian population in major population centers. While the colonial regime asks for support from the motherland to restore order, the growing native opposition manages to reach beyond the boundary of the colony, asking for support in their demands.
  • Empire of Ethiopia: Progress continues on building the army into a modern fighting force. 20,000 new recruits are added as part of Patton's second wave of recruitment, planning to do a total of three waves of recruitment altogether. Federation oil developers make a final report to the Emperor, informing him that the oil wells are nearly completed and should begin pumping by next year. Additionally, the reclamation of Ethiopian pastoral lands continues, with wide-scale farming progressing. However lack of modern equipment and a line of credit still hampers the peasants. To solve this issue the Emperor, anticipating the oil revenues Ethiopia will soon collect, establishes the Imperial Bank of Ethiopia, creating a new Imperial Ministry of Finance to oversee the bank. The bank is established specifically with the goal of providing loans and credits to peasants who otherwise have no access to funds. With extremely low interest rates and a lack of hurtles to take out a loan thousands of peasants are anticipated to be able to secure funding for their farmlands. Progress continues in the mining sector, and the first iron and coal mines are opened to help fuel Ethiopia's industrialization.
  • Republic of China: We continue rebuilding  our country, as it was destroyed by the war. We hold elections in the Northern occupation zone of Korea, and democratic forces have won it. China begins a national overhaul of education, in order to foster a more learned population. The Yangtze river valley continues to be rebuilt. We encourage industry to grow between Nanjing and Shanghai on the Yangtze, and the Asian Economic Bank opens a branch in Shanghai.
    • United Kingdom Diplomacy: The United Kingdom offers to meet about industrialization, investment, and foreign aid in exchange for extension of the New Territories Lease and political support in Southeast Asia. OOC: If this seems like a good starting point, let's connect on discord or talk pages.
  • Republic of the Philippines:president Osmena pays tributes to the people who died in the Bataan death march and announces the creation of a war memorial to honour and remeber all those who died during that march. The sneate passes the ACCFA act which establishes the Agricultural Credit and Cooperative Financing Administration in order to aid the rural farmers and people. In order to encourage more philipineos to engage in painting, architecture and other cultural arts the Prize of culture is established by the minister of culture.in the 1950 cebu mayoral elections, presidents osmenas son Sergio Osmeña Jr wins the race and becomes the new major of Cebu.
  • Greece: Despite the Yugoslavian aid, Zachariadis privately declares his condolences and grief over the death of “the greatest of all communists”, Stalin, in a letter to Beria and the intermerit leadership of the USSR. The politburo of the KKE is at least nominally in support of Tito, to keep the support in the nation. The Yugoslav rush has driven most of the American and Spanish troops into rural Arcadia or into the mountains, where the DSE Battalions siege the Americans and Spanish out in the gorges and the towns, making an organized retreat or regrouping impossible. Smaller squads smuggle themselves behind the lines of the enemy in stolen monarchist uniforms, and sabotage the american actions. If they are identified as DSE troops, they pretend to be desateurs, who have found back their loyalty to the crown. SECRET An assassination plot towards one of the american generals is planned, preferably with or Yugoslav support ( MOD RESPONSE PLEASE) SECRET END An attempt to invade the Aegean islands is made, mostly by securing landing positions on the main islands via local sympathizers. Agitation in all of Greece continues, especially in the poor and rural areas on Crete, where massive fundings and careful planning are done to provoke a civil uprising. The KKE sends a delegation to the USSR to negotiate to keep the Soviet support in Greece, and leasing out a few airplanes to the DSE, despite the support of the Yugoslav traitors. The greater enemy in the end is still the imperialist US and its allies, while Greece is not involved in the treason Tito committed (SOVIET RESPONSE NEEDED).
  • Negative Ghost Rider. I know you want to win, but the US still controls at least 1-2 major ports that were either built up to accomodate American troops, or previously existed. This leaves Athens, and Pireas for the most part. No Way your troops actually engaged American troops and won. Same for the Yugoslavs. They are two different levels of power bracket here. -Feud

The military continues to conduct rear area security in Greece with areas of guerrilla activity suffering from houses being burnt and suspects being deported to labour camps in Spain. Spanish soldiers shoot saboteurs and anyone collaborating with saboteurs as well as suspected collaborators.
    • Economy: Due to the introduction of minimum wage, low paid farm labourers lose their jobs and move to the city in small numbers, the government guarantees the purchase of equipment to mechanise agricultral labour making up for the shortfall.
    • Education: The focus on reading is maintained with a national programme solely using phonics for all schools at age four and taking three years with tests conducted every year. Children are also tested for convergence insufficiency and phonological deficit every year.
