The Kingdom of Denmark is a sovereign state in northern Europe. Formerly part of the Holy Roman Empire, it has long been a powerful force in Europe, having been the original homeland of many of the Norsemen who sook their fortune overseas, and of many early settlers in Norwegian Vinland. It straddles the straits between the Baltic and North Seas, and is bordered by Sweden to the north and Saxony to the south.
