Québec is divided into 17 administrative regions called Departments (Québécois Départements), named after the French Departments. Like their French counter parts, each department is administered by an elected body called a departmental council (conseil départemental [sing.], conseils départementaux [plur.]). In January 1970, the Québec Administrative Region was renamed to become the Capitale-Nationale.
