Deseretism, more properly, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, is a religion based out of the Deseret province of Aruta. It is generally considered by those outside the church as an offshoot of Christianity, though many Deseretists consider it instead a branch within the same, though there are some Deseretists who accept the designation as a separate religion, believing that their church follows the true teachings of Jesus Christ, and that the so-called Christian church is a corrupted heresy, not worthy of using the name of Christ. According to Arutan law, it is a distinct religion, a designation that was originally granted for political reasons, primarily distrust of Christianity within Aruta, and many other Japanese nations. Though that distrust has decreased, the legal designation of distinct religion remains a topic of controversy within the Deseretist church and many Christian churches.
