The first point of divergence is the different countries joining different alliances and different countries having different plans. This might mean that Italy joins the Central Powers instead of the Allies, or that France has a more agressive strategy towards Germany. It should also be noted that when the war does end, the conditions are different.

The second point of divergence, the one that ultimately brings the Central Powers up to winning, is the United States. In OTL, Germany plans for Mexico to invade the United States and the message gets intercepted, causing the United States to join the war against Germany. In this alternate timeline, it's the French that plan for Mexico to invade, and as such, the United States joins the war alongside Germany, causing the central powers to win WW1.
