Dilma Petrova Rusev (Bulgarian: Дилма Петрова Русев; born 14 December 1947) is a Bulgarian politician and economist who served as President of Bulgaria and First Secretary of the Bulgarian Communist Party since 2016. She is the first woman to have held the Bulgarian leadership, previously serving as Minister of Finances of Sergey Stanishev between 2005 and 2010. She is also the head of the politburo, which makes her Bulgaria's paramount leader.
Rusev was born in Belo Horizonte, in Brazil. Her father, Bulgarian lawyer Petar Rusеv, fled the country and arrived in Brazil in the 1930s. She moved to Bulgaria when she was five years old. She eventually became engaged with the Communist Party during her youth.
