Welcome to the world of Double Collapse: The Entire Collapse of Communism (or Double Collapse for short), a timeline when communism fell throughout the entire world.

In this scenario, the timeline starts in 1980, when Zhao Ziyang succeeded Hua Guofeng as the Premier of the People's Republic of China, and by 1987, the reformist faction (led by Ziyang), was re-appointed Ziyang as premier instead of hardline communist Li Peng in 1987 power struggle, resulting in the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 not being suppressed and leading to the entire collapse of communism, with the Chinese regime collapsing on December 19, 1991. shaping a different start of the post-Cold War period and overall different world.

On 15 April 1989, following the sudden death of pro-reform CCP member Hu Yaobang, the students reacted strongly to the death that sparked the revolution at Tiananmen Square, [UNDER PROGRESS]. By 3 June, the soldiers of the 27th Army Group began to refuse orders to clear the streets using live fire, and joined the protestors due to refusal of order from Zhao Ziyang, following small transition of the CCP to the Marxist-Leninist ideology in 1987. This prevented the crackdown on Tiananmen Square from occurring, also resulting in the establishment of the People's Democratic Council in 10 June 1989.

  • Yugoslavia won the 1990 FIFA World Cup, creating a sense of national unity that delayed the potential collapse of the country, allowing its leaders to reform the nation into a heavily decentralised federation in the mid-1990s. Due to this sporting change, many future football/soccer events and contests are affected because of it.
  • The Lost Decade never occurred in Japan because the Japanese government noticed the economic bubble earlier in 1988 and immediately carried out economic reforms that resemble Ireland’s (tax-evading haven). Therefore, Japanese economy boomed. It became the largest economy in the world, surpassing the USA in 2001.
  • The handover of Hong Kong and Macau didn’t take place as the new Chinese government was willing to declare the Sino-British Joint Declaration and Sino-Portugese Joint Declaration null and void, stating that it was not practical given the economic turmoil in China - the Hong Kong Agreement and Macau Agreement was made instead.
  • During the Chechen War from 1994 to 1996, Russian president Boris Yeltsin realized of the failures in the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan like in OTL and decided to recognize the Chechen Republic's independence in 1996, This resolved the tension with Chechnya, preventing apartment bombings or invasion of Dagestan. This also prevented Yeltsin's popularity from dropping as low as it did, making Vladimir Putin's popularity decline. Grigory Yavlinsky was able to win the 2000 presidential election in Russia and convert Russia from an oligarchy to a democratic republic.
  • During the Afghan Civil War in 1998, Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri mysteriously died in 1998, possibly being killed in action but their fates remains unknown. This resulted in the total collapse of Al-Qaeda - no 9/11, no US-invasion of Iraq, no re-election of Bush, and no 2007-2008 economic crisis or the Great Recession.
  • The 2002 Venezuelan coup d'état attempt resulted in the opposition's and anti-governmental demonstrators’ takeover of Venezuela. Chavez's regime was overthrown and Venezuela became democratic.
  • The People's National Party won the 2007 Jamaican general election. On 1 January 2011, Jamaica officially became a republic.
  • The Belarusian Jeans Revolution was never suppressed because Putin never came to power, resulting in the overthrowing of Lukashenko's regime in 2006.
  • As China is democratic in this timeline, COVID-19 was contained effectively at the very beginning of the outbreak, so COVID-19 did not become a global pandemic
  • With Japan's GDP exceeding the US, attempts to expand its global influence increased; this includes partnership with countries in southern Asia and Africa; Japanese culture and language was spread beyond Asia, and perhaps required in some major Japanese-influenced countries; Sony aggressively sought to dominate the smartphone market and ranked 3rd in terms of smartphone market share, just behind Samsung and Apple.
  • China and Russia are hybrid regimes in 1990s: following economic issues and internal anger and frustration at authoritarianism being at an all-time high, both countries' presidents reluctantly began democratic reforms, whilst keeping several main institutions following authoritarian and communist ideologies. This allowed for internal anger to remain. Subsequently, both countries engaged in activities attempting to gain Western trust, and became viewed as a new Western nation whilst continuing with some of their historical ideologies. This included the carrying out of Transitional Justice, which convicted several notable people in the Russian and Chinese past of issues relating to human rights abuse, corruption and more. This allowed for more engagement with the West during this period, and encouraged eventual large-scale democratic reforms in the region.
  • The financial crisis never occurred because the Federal Government did not give up rescuing Lehman brothers in ATL
  • The Eritrean and Tigray People's Liberation Front merge. This causes Eritrea to be stronger and slightly larger after independence in 1991. Additionally, tensions with Ethiopia never build up leaving Isaias Afwerki with no excuse to delay elections and gives up power, which causes a different constitution and more free, democratic and richer Eritrea than in OTL. The African Union is also based in Asmara.
  • The Arab Spring occurs and it results in these outcomes
    • Egypt overthrown its president and it's republican government decided to democratize.

  • Al Timotheus: Timothy was (or still is) a contributor to the original Differently and is known for page twerking, but he is controversial because of his page about alternative self where he wrote something disgusting in Personal life. Sometimes he also makes unauthorized edits in other timelines, particulary in Double Collapse, when he made unauthorized article on Melania Trump without Narukami's permission.

  • Susamogus123124124124124124124: This user, like Hazmat, is an another example of a typical angry communist. On 21 November 2023, he wrote that the user TheBestBolt is a degenerate capitalist pig.
  • ChumsFan1243: ChumsFan1243 made a one unauthorized edit in the main Double Collapse timeline.
  • Flabby cheeks for life: This user got banned for posting NSFW gifs on An Honorable Retelling server.
  • Nikocado: Too lazy to write reasoning behind his ban.
