Dwayne Douglas Johnson (born May 2, 1972), known by his ring name The Rock, is a Columbian politician, actor, and former professional wrestler who served as the 44th president of the United States from 2021 to 2025. Prior to taking office, he served as the 40th Governor of Nova Scotia from 2012 until 2020.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, he was integral to the development and success of the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) during the Attitude Era, an industry boom period in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Johnson wrestled for the WWF for eight years prior to pursuing an acting career. In 2012, Dwayne retired from acting and became a politician not too long after, being elected as Governor of Nova Scotia that same year. He made headlines in 2020 when he announced his candidacy for the presidency of the United States. Though many were skeptical of the former wrestler and actor's qualifications for the job, Johnson was able to gain traction in the race with his charisma and platform.
Johnson began his campaign in earnest in early 2020, touring the country and holding rallies where he spoke about his vision for Columbia. He focused on issues such as healthcare, education, and the economy, emphasizing his own background as a self-made success story. Despite initial doubts about his political viability, Johnson was able to win the hearts and minds of many Columbians through his celebrity status and passionate speeches. He also benefited from the fact that many voters had grown disillusioned with the traditional political establishment and were looking for a fresh face to lead the country. Throughout the campaign, Johnson faced criticism from political opponents who questioned his experience and political acumen. However, he proved himself to be a savvy campaigner, quickly learning the ins and outs of the political process and building a formidable team around him.
As President, Johnson has enacted humanitarian reforms aimed at improving the issue of poverty in the nation's southwest, to mixed responses from Congress, which blocked his attempts at issuing an infrastructure bill in May 2022. He has adopted a curt stance against Persia, which has increased already-tumultuous relations between them and the United States. Johnson is often ranked as a below-average-to-worst president, and was impeached but acquitted as a result of the Alf Landon Research Facility disaster. He lost re-election in the contentious 2024 United States presidential election.
